A Word from the Word

Sometimes we're just loud people. Maybe it's a TV blaring and you can't hear yourself think. Maybe you're stopped at a traffic light, and you feel a vibration and then you hear a deep bass beat. Oh, it's just the car behind you playing their radio that loud. It might be you're nodding off to sleep, then someone unintentionally shouts to someone in the house. We hope for a moment of quiet.

I'd read that in ancient times the pagans cried out in a noisy frenzy to their idols. In contrast to that, the psalmist saw how important silence can be. It's in that silence, a quiet reverence, that we can hear the Lord. Maybe it's a quiet room at home, in a hushed church sanctuary, or early morning quietness we can meet with the Lord and hear from Him. It was Habakkuk who declared, "But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him" (Hab. 2:29). It may just be to hear from the Lord as we study His Word, as we pray, we've got to turn down the volume of the world. It's been said that silence is golden. There just might be something to that.

Thank the Lord Sunday's coming! We're looking forward to this Sunday at Hastings Baptist Church as we get to celebrate Jesus. We hope you can join us for Sunday School at 9:45 am, and as we get to worship at 11 am & 6 pm. "Oh, come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand" (Psalm 95:6-7).

A Word from the Word

As I write this, it's raining outside (yes, I've seen rain before!). It's so nice that God has blessed us with the rain, as we need it. God is so good! I stood looking outside just watching and listening to the rain (and yes, I did have good sense to come out of the rain). But what a blessing it is.

Isn't it like God to provide for us, as we look at the rain He has sent. In Ezekiel 34:26 we read, "I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing' and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing." When we think of God's blessing, are we taking the time to just thank Him for His blessing? We pray for a lot of things, but do we ever, kind of, maybe, forget just to say "Thank You Lord for Your blessings"? It's always the right time to thank Him. "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever"(1 Chron. 16:34). May we remember, "Every good gift and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning" (James 1:17).

As He has blessed us, let's not forget to thank Him, praise Him and bless His name. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!" (Ps. 103:1). May we thank Him, praise and worship Him and continue to call out to Him, the One who has blessed us incredibly. May we bless Him in return in a way that pleases Him. "There shall be showers of blessing; Oh, that today they might fall, Now as to God we're confessing, Now as on Jesus we call! Showers of blessing, showers of blessing we need; Mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead."

Sunday is coming and we look forward to seeing you at Hastings Baptist Church as we get to worship together. We hope to see you for Sunday School at 9:45 am, and Sunday morning worship at 11 am (no Sunday evening worship this Sunday). It is always such a joy to worship and lift up the Lord Jesus. "O God, You are my God; Early will I seek you" (Psalm 63:1).

A Word from the Word

Where do you place your trust? Is it in money, or a person or some other thing? It's easy to take our eyes off Jesus and trust in things, or someone, maybe even ourselves. David wrote in Psalm 20, "Some trust in chariots, some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God" (v. 7). There are things that are useful in our daily lives, for David it was horses and chariots, but those things don't bring security when times get tough. If we place our trust in our things or in our wealth, we soon discover those things don't satisfy, they will crumble beneath us. Put your trust in the Lord. You'll never regret it. "Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:3, 5) The hymnwriter put it like this, "Trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." We live in a changing, at times untrustworthy world, always know that we can trust in our unchanging God.

We look forward to seeing you Sunday at Hastings Baptist Church. Please join us at 9:45 am for Sunday and at 11 am & 6 pm as we worship the Lord together. God is so good! "There is none like You, O Lord. You are great, and Your name is mighty in power" (Jer. 10:6).

A Word from the Word

Sometimes there are things that come up, it may be something you don't want to do, and you'll say, "I have to..." I'm afraid that then it comes to church, there are those who grudgingly say, "I have to go to church." I hope that's not the case, for there is nothing like coming together as the people of God, in the house of God, on the Lord's Day. When it comes to Sunday, may we be ready to hear from the Lord, to worship the Lord, and sound our praises with the Lord's church. The psalmist said, "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord'" (Ps. 122:1). I don't know about you, but it's not a 'have to' but a 'get to' thing. I get to come to worship with God's people on the Lord's Day. How great it is! May it be as Isaiah wrote, "Many people shall come and say, 'Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths..." (Is. 2:3). Is it 'have to' or 'get to' for you? I'm glad I get to come to church!

We get to come together to worship, and we look forward to seeing you Sunday at Hastings Baptist Church. This Sunday, Mother's Day, we will host a Mother's Day breakfast at 9 am, all are invited (no Sunday School on Mother's Day), and we'll worship together at 11 am. There will be NO Sunday evening service this Sunday. On May 17th, we hope to see you, and by the way, "Can I Ask You a Question?" Hope to see you on the 17th. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so..." (Ps. 107:2).
