People run OUT of burning buildings. That’s simple human self-preservation, to get as far away from danger as possible. Yet we know there are those who run INTO burning buildings. We call them firefighters. We also call them heroes. Normal human reaction is to get away from gunfire, especially if you’re unarmed. Another Look at “America the Beautiful”

Katharine Lee Bates was an American poet, born in 1859, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Her father, a minister in the Congregationalist church, passed away only a few weeks after she was born, but she was raised by her independent-minded mother and an aunt. After graduating from high school, Katharine enrolled in Wellesley College, graduating with her B.A. in 1880. She taught high school and traveled, attended Oxford for a time, and eventually became a professor of English Literature at Wellesley....
