“The Promises of God” Jeremiah 29:11-14

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

Scripture: James 5:13-20

13. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19. Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20. Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

What a beautiful day to share God’s love and to give back to the community. Our community outreach day was a successful one and we were able to bless many families. Today’s Sermon:

Matthew 1:21
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” reveals the divine mission of Jesus. It highlights the meaning of His name, the identity of those He came to save, and the spiritual nature of His ultimate purpose.

The Meaning of the Name "Jesus"

In Hebrew and Aramaic, the name Jesus is Yeshua (or Joshua), which translates to "The Lord is salvation" or "Yahweh saves". By commanding Joseph to give Him this name, the angel indicates that the child’s very identity is directly tied to His life's mission, He is coming as a Savior.

The Nature of "Salvation"

When Jesus arrived, many expected a political or military leader who would liberate Israel from the oppression of the Roman Empire. However, this verse clarifies that His true mission is spiritual. He came to save people from "their sins". In biblical terms, sin separates humanity from God. Salvation involves rescuing people from the penalty, power, and ultimate presence of sin.

Who are "His People"?

The promise states that He will save "His people". While this initially referred to the Jewish nation, the New Testament expands this concept to include all people, both Jew and Gentile, who accept the Gospel message and become believers.
