Village Quilters was established in 1983 by Cindy Schultz, owner of the Village Peddlar quilt shop (now closed). The group was formed as a spin-off of sampler classes offered at the at the quilt shop in Harvard Il Members of the classes wanted to continue working on their quilt projects after classes ended. The first meeting places were located in the basements of the First State Bank of Harvard, and the Harvard public library. Members met to sew, help each other and have light refreshments. As the group grew, it was decided to organize a guild. The name for the Guild was created by Margaret Kistler. She thought βVillageβ should be in the name as the group originated at the Village Peddler.
