Matthew 20:28

As Jesus continued toward Jerusalem, He told His disciples something they struggled to understand. He explained that He would suffer, be rejected, and be put to death.

The disciples were still thinking about power and position. They imagined a coming kingdom where they would hold places of honor.

But Jesus reminded them of a different kind of leadership.

“The Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Jesus was describing the very mission that would soon unfold on the cross.

The world measures greatness by status and authority. Jesus measures greatness by sacrifice and service.

The closer we come to Easter, the more clearly we see that the King we follow is also the Servant who gave His life for us.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to live with the same humility and servant’s heart that You showed.

Matthew 19:21

A rich young man once approached Jesus, asking what he must do to inherit eternal life. He had kept the commandments and lived a respectable life.

But Jesus looked at him and said something difficult:

“Sell what you possess, give to the poor… and come, follow me.”

The young man walked away sorrowful because he had great wealth.

The issue was not simply money. The issue was surrender.

Jesus knew the man’s heart. Something else had taken first place in his life.

Following Jesus means placing Him above everything else—above possessions, security, comfort, and even our own plans.

As we move closer to Easter, we remember that Jesus Himself would soon surrender everything for us.

The question we must ask ourselves is simple:

What might God be asking me to surrender so that I can follow Him more fully?

Prayer:
Lord, show me anything that is standing between me and fully following You.

Luke 18:13–14

Jesus speaks about a parable about two men who went to the temple to pray.

One was a Pharisee who proudly listed all of his religious accomplishments. The other was a tax collector who simply prayed, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”

Jesus said the tax collector went home justified before God.

Why? Because the Pharisee trusted in his own righteousness, while the tax collector trusted in God’s mercy.

It is easy to compare ourselves with others and feel spiritually confident. But the closer we truly come to God, the more aware we become of our need for grace.

The path toward Easter always begins with humility.

Before the resurrection comes the cross.
Before forgiveness comes repentance.

And the good news is this: the mercy of God is always ready for the humble heart.

Prayer:
Lord, keep my heart humble before You. Help me rely on Your mercy, not my own righteousness.

Luke 18:1

On His journey toward Jerusalem, Jesus told His disciples a parable about a persistent widow who kept coming before a judge asking for justice.

The point of the parable was simple: never give up praying.

Life often brings seasons when prayers seem unanswered. We ask God for help, healing, guidance, or direction, and the answers do not come as quickly as we hoped.

Jesus knew His disciples would soon face fear, confusion, and hardship. Before those moments arrived, He taught them to keep praying.

Faith is not only believing when things are easy. Faith is continuing to trust God when the answer has not yet come.

Persistent prayer is not about convincing God to care. It is about reminding ourselves that He already does.

Prayer:
Lord, I continue to pray and trust You, even when the answers take time.
