When Christ said, “Do this in remembrance of me,” He wasn’t asking for nostalgia. He wasn’t telling us to simply look back at a historical event and think fond thoughts.

We say this confidently because In the biblical worldview, “remembrance” (anamnesis) literally means making a past reality active and present right now.

At our last Shpresa gathering, we traced this exact thread from Mount Sinai to the Upper Room. We started in Exodus 24, looking at how the Old Covenant was literally sealed in blood to bind God and His people together and a dramatic, physical foreshadowing of what was to come.

Then, reading through 1 Corinthians 10 and 11, we explored how well St. Paul understood the New Covenant. Paul is clear: the “cup of blessing” isn’t a symbol. It is an actual participation. When we approach the altar, we aren’t watching a play or a reenactment. We are actually stepping out of our own time and directly into the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
To “do this in remembrance” is to be drawn directly into the reality and truth of Christ on the cross.

We give a very special thank you to Fr. Viktor Gjergi for visiting us in small groups to discuss the topic as well as concluding speech: and thank you to everyone who joined us to unpack this theology. It is always a privilege to see our Shpresa community dig into the roots of the faith and ask the hard, necessary questions.

Join us tonight for our last meeting on Vatican II! :)

The Church must ever look to the present and the future…”

Last week, we continued our “Vatican Tuesdays” series!
Every Tuesday For the past few weeks, Led by Gjonzef, Shpresa has been taking the time to truly understand Vatican II.
We’ve been breaking down the documents, discussing the history, and discovering why these teachings are so crucial for us as young Catholics navigating the modern world. Our Catholic faith isn’t just a tradition we inherit, but a living mission we are called to actively carry forward each and every day.

If you haven’t joined, or missed the last couple of meetings; fear not for everyone is still welcomed and each chapter covers something new for you to learn and discuss. See you soon!
