November 9, 10 am: Who Is A Saint with lay leader
Helen Miller
——————————
Who or what is a saint? Do we have them in Unitarian Universalism?

In many Christian traditions, and some other world religions, a “saint” is a person who is recognized as having an exceptional degree of holiness, likeness, or closeness to God. However, the use of the term saint depends on the context and religious tradition. This service will be about saints, not forgetting Veterans’ Day, and not forgetting the country in crisis, and the world’s miseries.

The collection will benefit the Minister’s Charitable Discretionary Fund. This is a small special fund that Rev. Paul Sawyer uses to provide modest, meaningful support to people in need in some way.

We again thank our village of hardworking, tireless volunteers to put on our Turkey Suppers—many more than are captured in these photos! To all of them we say a huge thank you! And to all the folks who came and ate at our first in-person suppers in five years: we appreciate your support and your rave reviews.

Elementary-aged children enjoy weekly experiences via our Religious Education Program, led by our Director of Religious Education Samana Sukumar and held on Sundays during the second half of our service. RE helps build community, nourishes children’s sense of spirit, deepens their faith, and encourages our youth to make the world a better place together. 🌎

November 2, 10 am: Samhain/All Souls with Rev. Paul Sawyer
——————————

⏰ Remember: Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday!

On Samhain (a Gaelic word, pronounced SAW-when or SOW-when), the ancients said that the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest, and spirits can pass easily from one to the next.

All are welcome to oin us for an Earth-centered celebration of remembrance, as we note the passing of the world toward winter, and with an autumn ritual, honor our ancestors of all sorts and conditions who have died but whose memory and presence still touch our lives.

While we await the repair of the heating system in the sanctuary (looks like very soon!)—please plan to have some warmer layers available for worship services these next few weeks!

Our collection from this past Sunday will support The Good Neighbor Health Clinic & Red Logan Dental Clinic a non-profit free health care program established in 1992 to offer free primary medical and dental care to the people of the Upper Connecticut River Valley who are in need and lack the resources to obtain adequate care. They also offer special programs to support LGBTQIA+ people in our region. All of their work is currently very important in these times when funding and other support for the care they offer is actively threatened in our nation.

Their main facility is in White River Junction, Vermont, and they also operate satellite clinics in Lebanon and Enfield, NH.

The Good Neighbor Clinic never charges for its services, and is staffed by medical professionals who volunteer their time and skill. Several members of our congregation have benefitted from the services of the Good Neighbor Clinic, and we also have members who serve as volunteers at the clinic.
