Scholarships can be used for tutoring, after-school programs, and supplemental special education services for public school students too. It's the law. The CT General Assembly, towns, PTAs, and others can all establish their own scholarship organizations.

Good news: the scholarships are entirely funded by private donations and are nothing like vouchers. The scholarship tax credit is administered through the IRS, like the Child Tax Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit.

90% of all students would be income-eligible, and there is no legislated cap on the scholarship amount per student. Anyone who pays federal taxes can receive a credit up to $1,700 (the full $1,700 income tax owed, assuming no other credits, kicks in around $26,000 annual income).

We could easily redirect $230 million to in-state scholarships that would otherwise go to Washington, DC, to be spent in other states. CT is a donor state that sends billions more than it receives back in federal funding.

Gov. Ned Lamont is still weighing whether the state will participate in the first federal tax credit program to help eligible families pay for tuition at private schools or academic, tutoring and cโ€ฆ

Today, during Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate vocations and those who are called to serve God and His people. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’™

Our Catholic schools play an important role in helping students recognize Godโ€™s call in their lives. Through faith formation, prayer, and service, students are encouraged to listen with open hearts, grow in discernment, and understand how their gifts can be used in service to the Church and the world. ๐Ÿ“–

We are grateful for Bishop Frank J. Caggiano, Stacie Stueber, our Superintendent, principals, teachers, staff, priests, deacons, religious sisters and brothers, and the many lay leaders across the Diocese of Bridgeport and Diocese of Bridgeport Catholic Schools who serve our schools each day. Through their dedication and witness, they inspire students to live lives rooted in faith, purpose, and service.

Today, during Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate our nation and give thanks for the freedoms, opportunities, and responsibilities we share as citizens. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ™

In our Catholic schools, students learn the importance of civic responsibility, respect for others, and service to the common good. Rooted in faith and guided by Gospel values, they are formed to be compassionate leaders who contribute positively to their communities and our nation. โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

We are grateful for the role Catholic education plays in preparing students to live out their faith while serving our country with integrity, justice, and love.
