📖 Scripture Sunday

With the conclusion of General Conference, we stand at the threshold of a new season. Decisions have been made, new leaders have been entrusted with responsibility, and the next six years of ministry will begin to take shape.

We can look back with gratitude for all God has brought us through, and we can look ahead with hope for what is still to come. Yet, as this passage reminds us, we cannot see the whole picture. We do not know all that God is doing from beginning to end.

We give thanks for those who have served and pray for those who've been called to lead, and we step into the future with confidence that God is already there.

Precious Lord, thank You for bringing us to this moment. Guide our new leaders, bless the work ahead, and help us trust You with this new season. May all we do be suited to Your purposes and bring glory to You. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen. 🙏

📖 Scripture Sunday

As we begin General Conference, let us remember our theme: The Beauty of Holiness.

Holiness is more than something we believe; it is a way of life that shapes how we worship, how we serve, and how we treat one another. As a global, Wesleyan people, we are called to grow in holiness and to reflect the character of Christ in all that we do.

As delegates, volunteers, staff, and guests gather from around the world, may our worship be Spirit-filled, our conversations gracious, and our decisions guided by the Holy Spirit. May the beauty of holiness be evident not only in our worship, but in the way we listen, disagree, serve, and seek God’s will together.

Lord, make us a people who worship You with reverence and joy. May the beauty of Your holiness be seen in us throughout General Conference and beyond. Amen. 🙏

I did a deep dive to learn about the history of the Doxology which we sing at the end of the church service every Sunday. And it’s quite interesting!

Thomas Ken, born in 1637 in Herforshire, England, was ordained into the Church of England, served around England as a pastor and chaplain.

Around 1674, when he was round 37 years old, Bishop Ken wrote three hymns for morning, evening, and midnight as an addition to his A Manual of Prayers for the Use of the Scholars of Wi******er College. “Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow” was the text of the final, doxological stanza for all three of them.

Little known fact - in 1688, he was briefly imprisoned in the Tower of London for refusing to comply with King James II’s very controversial and questionable Declaration of Indulgence. From what I read about this decree, I think I would have ended up in the tower of London as well. I agree with Bishop Ken. :)
