How well we know!

I wish I could approach you with more to offer, but I’m completely empty and have little to give you, Jesus.

Emotionally and physically drained, I am just parched. I need rest, I need energy, I need peace. Honestly, I feel so needy when I come to you.

But you see me kneel at your feet and you don’t even look for what I can give you.

You aren’t in need of me.

You see my heart and its desire to be near you, and that’s enough for you.

You remind me I wasn’t created to be strong on my own, that strength comes from you.

There is freedom in that, and I’m so thankful you don’t expect me to do more than I can.

You are a kind Father, who truly understands the power structure here.

You are all powerful, with no limits, and no need of rest.

We are far, far from that.

You’re okay with that.

It’s funny how a world ran by humans will tell us to work harder and strive, but the One who created the world tells us sometimes what we need most is to surrender and rest.

Thank you for being okay with what your children have to offer, even if it’s just their weary heart.

I’ll never understand how you got through this horrid day.

And I only know a fraction of it.

How did you get yourself to go into the garden where you knew they’d take you? You knew everything that was going to happen and allowed it.

How did you deal with the pain of the whips tearing so deep into your back it got to your muscles? And the crown of thorns that pieced into your head?

How did the sight of pure hatred towards you in the eyes of the humans you created.. how did you still ask the Father to forgive them?

How did you stay quiet when you were getting questioned and accused? How did you remain quiet when the crowd who claimed to know God the most was screaming, “crucify” at you, God incarnate?

How did you carry that cross, like a criminal, to the top of Calvary knowing the worst pain was still ahead?

The pain of separation from the One you’ve always been one with.

I’ll never understand how you got through it.

I can only go back to this one truth: it was love.

Your wild, unfathomable, pure love, that kept you going.

Your love is the greatest gift there is, Jesus.
Ever.

And I only know a fraction of it.
