🚨TELL CT ELECTED OFFICIALS TO PROTECT IMMIGRANTS DURING THE UPCOMING SPECIAL SESSION! 🚨

As legislators plan for an upcoming special legislative session in the next few weeks, we need Governor Lamont, House Leadership, and Senate Leadership to hear from us - Our immigrant communities need to feel safe in the place they call home!
MAKE A CALL NOW!

☎️ Governor Lamont: 202-640-5612

☎️ Speaker Ritter: 888-343-2060

☎️ Senator Looney: 888-726-3132

In the last two months, we have seen ICE ramp up operations in Connecticut!

Armed and masked ICE agents are terrorizing our communities — abducting parents in front of their children, targeting workers, and tearing students from their futures. These actions violate the dignity, safety, and basic rights of our neighbors. This is a campaign of fear, and it has no place in our state.

Immediate and urgent action is needed to prevent our state and local resources from being used to advance the federal government's cruel mass deportation agenda. We urge our Connecticut elected officials to stand with us and take immediate action and take up the issue of immigrant protections during the upcoming special session:

✅ Protect the Personal Information of our immigrant community from being used for immigration enforcement

✅ Protect Immigrants at Courthouses

✅ Preserve HUSKY Medicaid for undocumented children and pregnant individuals

✅ Make our Communities Safer by Prohibiting the Use of State and Local Resources to Assist Immigration Enforcement

No-fault evictions devastate and destabilize our communities—especially working-class, immigrant, and Black and brown tenants.

Call Speaker of the House Matt Ritter at (860) 240-8489
Tell him to call HB 6880 for a vote in the House and end these unjust evictions.

Here’s an idea of what to say:

"Hi, this is [NAME], and I’m calling Speaker Ritter from [TOWN] to urge him to call an immediate House vote on HB 6889, which will stop profiteering corporate landlords who suddenly and drastically raise rents for whole complexes of tenants who have paid their rent on time and followed the rules and then evict them without them having done anything wrong. I am paying attention to Speaker Ritter's actions on Just Cause and expect a vote to be called. Thank you!"

Once you’ve made your call, please take a moment to report how it went using this form >>

We’re excited to share that the Trust Act (HB 7212) received a favorable vote in the Judiciary Committee, with many of the key amendments we supported included to help strengthen the bill. To learn more:

Rep. Doug Dubitsky, R-Chaplin and Patrick Callahan, R-New Fairfield, both argued that the bill would endanger Connecticut residents.

Did you know Connecticut is sitting on a $4 billion rainy day fund—and choosing not to use it?
Governor Lamont continues to uphold strict fiscal “guardrails” that prevent real investments in public education, childcare, healthcare, and affordable housing. Meanwhile, billionaires and large corporations continue to avoid paying their fair share—and are poised to receive even more federal tax breaks.
Connecticut has the money. But instead of investing in what working families truly need, the state keeps billions locked away behind outdated policies. It’s time for a budget that puts the people of Connecticut first—one that unlocks existing funds, adopts progressive revenue solutions, and reinvests in our communities.
Take action today by sending a letter to Governor Lamont and let him know you support lifting the fiscal “guardrails” so we can fund the future Connecticut families deserve:

Did you know that Avelo Airlines still holds a contract with the Department of Homeland Security to carry out ICE deportation flights from Mesa, Arizona?
We’re calling on our communities to boycott Avelo Airlines until it ends its contract with DHS and stops profiting from deportations.
Avelo has taken full advantage of a two year fuel tax moratorium from the State of Connecticut to expand its operations at Bradley and Tweed airports. On June 30th, six weeks after Avelo starts ICE flights, the free pass on Avelo’s fuel tax bill in Connecticut expires. We demand that the CT legislature NOT renew this massive tax cut for Avelo that would effectively provide state subsidy for Trump Administration deportation practices.
Join us for an important action at Tweed Airport on Thursday, April 17th at 5pm to demand that Avelo end its contract with DHS and stop profiting from family separation.

No-fault evictions devastate and destabilize our communities—and if you are wondering how you can make a positive impact on the Just Cause campaign this legislative session, getting your elected officials to co-sponsor HB-6889 is just one great way. You have the power to ensure legislators pass this bill!
Go here to quickly write your state legislators asking them to co-sponsor Just Cause - HB 6889:

The Trust Act is one of the strongest protections Connecticut has for immigrant families against mass deportations. In 2025, we must strengthen the Trust Act to enhance accountability measures so local resources are not used to separate families.
Go here to urge your state legislatures to strengthen the Trust Act -- https://linktr.ee/TRUSTACT

Since 2013 Connecticut’s Trust Act has aimed to limit how state and local law enforcement can interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). For example, the Trust Act prohibits local and state law enforcement from arresting someone solely on the basis of a detainer — a request from ICE that local police detain a person for up to 48 hours so federal agents can pick them up.

Did you know landlords can force most month-to-month renters out of their homes on short notice or refuse to renew a lease for no reason? Passing HB 6889 would protect thousands of additional Connecticut tenants.

Last week was a big success, but the fight continues! The Just Cause bill was voted out of the Housing Committee of the state legislature, so to the House of Representatives it goes! The final Housing Committee vote was 11-8, notably with Democratic lawmakers Rep. Minnie Gonzalez and Rep. Larry Butler joining Republican committee members in voting against the proposal.

Please urge your state representative to co-sponsor HB 6889. Getting past the Housing Committee is a step toward victory that deserves celebration--but let us press on and show that the tenant movement is here to stay!
