On this Memorial Day, we commemorate and honor the sacrifice of all who have lain down their lives to protect and preserve the peace and freedom we enjoy in this nation. May the Lord grant eternal rest to their souls where the righteous repose, where there is no pain, sorrow, or suffering but only life everlasting. May their memory be eternal!

"O Christ our God, You ascended in Glory and gladdened Your disciples by the promise of the Holy Spirit. Your blessing assured them that You are the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world."

"He beheld the image of Your Cross in the Heavens and, as Paul, he too did not receive the call from men. Your Apostle among Kings placed the care of the Royal City in Your hands. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O only Loving Lord, keep it ever in peace."

- Apolytikia of Ascension and Sts. Constantine and Helen

Today we celebrate two very important feast days. First and foremost, today is the day of our Lord's Ascension into heaven. He was the first human being to enter the heavenly realm, opening heaven for all of us, giving us the opportunity to ascend along with him when we finish our own earthly journeys. Now we wait in expectation for the day He will send down to us the Holy Spirit, the Wisdom and Comforter, to be present with us forever. Additionally, we celebrate Sts. Constantine and Helen, two great saints of the church and considered to be equal to the Apostles. We wish a hearty Chronia Polla to the many Kostas, Constandinas, Elenis, and all others who celebrate their namedays today!
