Sam Cosby's funeral and gravesite at the Cosby Cemetery in 1941, which was also the first grave in the cemetery. Samuel W. "Sam" Cosby was born on November 11, 1870, in Claiborne, Tennessee, USA, to David Cosby and Elizabeth M. Massengill. When Samuel Cosby was born, his father, David H Cosby, was 39, and his mother, Elizabeth M. Massengill, was 37. He married Sarah Whitaker on May 18, 1891, in Claiborne, Tennessee, United States. They had at least four sons and two daughters. He lived in Civil District 5, Claiborne, Tennessee, United States, for about 60 years. He died on March 21, 1941, in Claiborne, Tennessee, United States, at the age of 70, and was buried on his farm, now known as the Cosby Cemetery in the Poplar Grove Community, Tennessee, United States.
