⭐️ HorizonCCM (Contemporary Christian Music) mission statement: to share the message of the Cross and worship our King of Salvation through the enjoyment and thoughtful study of contemporary Christian music.
📖History: Various genres of music have been popular over the ages, and music dates back to the very beginning of mankind. Adam and Eve heard the soothing sound of God as He walked in the Garden of Eden, Gen 3:8. Genesis 4:20-21: "Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. 21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes." Music often influences and motivates our activity and behavior. How often do we see a prominent athlete with headphones on prior to an event, listening to motivational music!
Music can be used for good or evil, but is an excellent vehicle with which to worship God. We will experience music in Heaven someday. Revelation 4:1 indicates the voice of one that sounds like a trumpet. In 5:8 there will be at least 24 harps and we will sing a new song to the Lord Jesus, for He is worthy. Part of being created in the image of God includes artistic ability and ability to create music. Even those who lack creativity can still appreciate and become inspired by music. Messages embedded in songs can help us focus on God and the song melody can lead to better remembrance of the message. We all can remember songs that had a great influence on our daily lives during influential time periods.
Over the past 50-100 years, music has evolved with newer genres to include jazz, rock, and even rap. When I was a young boy, rock and roll music was thought to be Satanic or at least worldly by many conservative Christians, yet the music was very catchy and compelling. Christian artists took this genre and created a Christ- centered message, arguing that the music itself with electric guitars and drums is not inherently evil. There are now a plethora of Christian music groups that cover the entire music spectrum. I seek to feature a variety of these artists and groups, trying to select artists that reflect godliness in their message.
✝️HorizonCCM seeks to: worship our Saviour Jesus Christ via listening to a featured artist and enjoying the music and message, but also holding the song accountable. We will even critique the lyrics for Scriptural validity, and ensure we are not being led astray by any false teaching that could potentially creep in. Lyric videos are used which helps to be able to sing along and see the words and message clearly. I will also try to feature a few brief interviews with the artist or band to help get some of the back story of a song or album.
Participants are free to express themselves during the "concert," with drumsticks provided if you would like to tap along with the beat. Others may prefer to color or doodle (paper and colored pencils provided), write down song lyrics that are influential, or pray. The option to be physically active such as raising hands and arms in worship, walking around, and generally any appropriate praise activity is encouraged. Lewd or suggestive dancing is not permitted. But making a joyful noise to the Lord and dancing before Him in worship can be manifested in many constructive ways!
🎶This is designed to be a family friendly activity, so kids and adults are welcome. However, the 3000 watt 5 speaker sound system is powerful enough to not be able to talk readily with someone sitting next to you during songs. So young children (under 😎 with sensitive ears may best avoid this ministry. I do have earplugs if needed, but the power of a song is sometimes muted if the volume is not at a decent level (loud!) So come prepared to see, hear and feel the Gospel portrayed through songs!
