Muhlenberg Lutheran Church

Muhlenberg Lutheran Church We are an ELCA church in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Join us for Sunday Worship at 8:30 and 11:00am in our sanctuary, with a Faith Formation hour at 9:45am.

The 11:00am service is also livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. We are a congregation with a rich history dating back to 1849, a dynamic presence with over 1300 members and a bright future. We are a large congregation in our area, but we enjoy and foster a smaller church atmosphere in many ways. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

It was a wonderful day of worship, fellowship, new beginnings…and some great “reactions” from our youth! First, we welcomed River Smith as we officially installed them as our Lutheran Campus Ministry Coordinator - welcome, River! We also had a lot of excitement with our youth today. Kylie Jo Good’s reaction was priceless as she learned she’s the grand prize winner for our Summer Worship Bingo drawing - congratulations, Kylie Jo! The Creasy kids showed their sibling love for each other as they reacted to Pastor Lauren’s Children’s Message (adorable!). And we had quite the tower building in the Nursery! The energy and joy our youth and college students bring to our Sundays is truly wonderful - thank you to all our staff and volunteers who make Muhlenberg a safe and meaningful place for our younger folks!

Farewell to the Ott St. House! This old house served Muhlenberg and People Helping People well for decades, but fell beyond repair in recent years. So, the space is now being cleared to make way for a playground/outdoor space for Second Home and the congregation, with People Helping People now housed on the lower floor of Muhlenberg’s main building. To the Ott St. House we say: farewell, good and faithful servant!

At Muhlenberg, today was “Fall Kickoff Sunday” - where we returned to 2 services (at 8:30am and 11:00am) and kicked off our program year! We welcomed back the full Chancel Choir, led by Music Minister Matt Thomas and featuring some talented guest musicians! Plus, we had a “Blessing of the Backpacks” at both services for students and teachers returning to school. And Sunday School for ALL ages returned at our regular 9:45am time. THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers and staff members who made Fall Kickoff Sunday so wonderful!
