Today, NASA launched the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope—named in honor of "Mother of the Hubble". Nancy Grace Roman was Chief of Astronomy in NASA's Office of Space Science, setting up the initial program in 1960; she was also the first woman to hold an executive position at the space agency, where she served for over 20 years. Nancy Grace Roman was a longtime member of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda, MD. Learn more about the telescope mission:

What if church wasn't about having all the answers, but learning how to ask bigger questions? Unitarian Universalism is a lifelong "School of Wonder"—a place where we stay curious about the mystery of the universe, the beauty of living things, and the hope of building a better future together.

Join us for an interactive, intergenerational service as we step into the classroom of awe! We will also hold our annual Blessing of the Backpacks during this service—students are invited to bring their empty backpacks for a special blessing as the new school year begins. Donated school supplies will be available for students to take home.
