Had some extra help this morning

He didn't hand you a manual. He just handed you the wrench and crouched down beside you on the cold garage floor.

The lesson was never really about the car. It was about patience — how you don't force a bolt that won't turn, how you wipe your hands on a rag and think before you pull, how a problem that looks impossible usually just needs someone who's been there before to quietly show you the angle. That little boy holding the wrench with both hands isn't learning mechanics. He's learning what a man looks like when he shows up.

Some classrooms smell like grease and motor oil.

The most important things we were ever taught came from someone who got down to our level and never made us feel small for not knowing yet.
