PRAYER IS DYNAMIC

Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role- play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. —MATTHEW 6: 6, THE MESSAGE

To a certain extent, learning to pray is a trial- and- error experience. On many levels prayer is as simple as opening our hearts to heaven and telling God how we feel, but it is also sublime. A lifetime spent in prayer will never be monotonous unless we pull back and stop growing in its practice. It is a unique journey God has designed for each of us.

That is not to say that we can’t learn about prayer from one another—otherwise what would be the point of my writing all of these books on it? But if all you do is read books, you will never really understand what prayer is all about. I can tell you, but you have to experience it for yourself to understand it.

Father, let me never complicate prayer or turn it into a religious ritual. My strength today comes from getting quiet before You, telling You what’s on my heart, and then listening to hear what’s on Yours. It’s so simple, and yet it is the most important thing I will do today. Thank You, Father, for hearing and answering prayer. In the name of Jesus, amen.

PRAYER CREATES CHANGE

Embrace this God- life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. . . . I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God- life, and you’ll get God’s everything. —MARK 11: 22–24, THE MESSAGE

If prayer was a sport, then it would be a contact sport. Prayer is the contact point between heaven and earth—or perhaps it is better said that the person who prays is that contact point. Your place of prayer is your place of power. Your place of prayer is your place of change management. We can create change through force of will and clever persuasion, but it won’t last. Real, irrevocable change only comes through prayer.

Father, I commit to bear Your light as an agent of change in a world of darkness. I pray today with the confidence that You not only hear my prayers but also delight in answering them. Allow me to tap into in the realm of the supernatural so that I pray with divine insight and prophetic revelation. Father, open the heavens and pour out breakthrough. I will not abandon my post in prayer. I will persist in prayer until heaven invades earth. In the name of Jesus, amen.

PRAYER ISN’T A RULEBOOK

Don’t look for shortcuts to God. . . . The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention. —MATTHEW 7: 13–14, THE MESSAGE

A lot of people look for a rulebook for prayer. They want step one, two, three, and so on, so they don’t have to think or pour that much of themselves into their prayers. They want to just check off the steps and feel they have done their duty. But prayer doesn’t work like that. Battles don’t work like that.

While you may have a plan going into the fight, once you have made first contact with the enemy, everything changes. Will you stay the course even if people call you crazy? Will you let so much of yourself be invested in prayer that you feel as if you may die if you don’t get what you are praying for? Desperate times call for desperate prayers.

Father, I pray not out of duty but because I am desperate for You, desperate for Your presence and power in my life. I cry out to You as David did. He cried out and You answered. Give me answers, Lord. Give me divine revelation and discernment to know what is on Your heart. Let my words bring life and liberty. I will not be deterred by what I see; I will persist in prayer until there is breakthrough. In the name of Jesus, amen.

DEMAND RESTITUTION

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. —JOHN 10: 10

The enemy has illegally seized many of our possessions and must be made to give them back—our reputations, our marriages, our children, our communities, our nations. He will not give them up until we demand it. We must learn how to pound at the gates of heaven through prayer and demand restitution for what he has stolen. He is a thief and must release what rightfully belongs to each of us.

I declare and decree that everything that pertains to my life and godliness and everything prepared for me before the foundation of the world must be released in its correct time and season. I command everything the enemy has swallowed up to be spat out and released. Let there be no demonic encroachment.

Let there be no satanic squatters—in the name of Jesus get off my property, get off my territory, get out of my sphere of influence, get out of my family, get out of my relationships, get out of my finances, get out of my body, and get out of my mind. You must go now in the name of Jesus. Amen.

ENFORCE YOUR LEGAL AUTHORITY

And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. —2 SAMUEL 23: 15–16

Many believers are desperate for a breakthrough, but breakthroughs have to be pursued. You must prevail over territorial spirits in order to possess your possessions. You must activate and exercise your dominion over a region within a realm, system, kingdom, industry, field, and discipline.

David had a divine desire for that which God had prepared for him before the foundation of the world. The enemy had assumed squatter’s rights until David enforced his legal authority over a region that belonged to him.

Father, place the anointing of a warrior upon me. Every domain and system that You have assigned me I confiscate from the enemy. I release the law of dispossession; every satanic or demonic squatter that is on my land, property, or territory I command to go in the name of Jesus. I am more than a conqueror. In the name of Jesus, amen.
