What’s LOVE got to do with it?
“I LOVE that show! I LOVE pizza! I LOVE you, babe!” We can speak of LOVing various things all in one sentence! Do you LOVE the pizza, the same way you LOVE your significant other? Does the show get more LOVE than the pizza?
You may say, “Of course not! My spouse knows I LOVE them more than my fav pizza!” However, we throw around that word without truly taking thought to what LOVE really means.
It’s a word that has been tossed around so much, its meaning has become mundane.
So what is LOVE? Is it something you desire passionately? Does it stir up lust within you? Is it something you really, really like? Is it your preferred choice?
Even though a lot of us see LOVE this way, God describes LOVE in a totally different way!
You know why our society has confusion about what LOVE really is? Because they have not experienced God’s LOVE. God’s LOVE came at a price, the price of His son. He wants to offer that same LOVE to you, so that in turn, you can truly LOVE others.
We try to seek out people and things to help fill this void. You may experience satisfaction for a time, however no matter how much you try, it will never truly fulfill.
The Bible has so many scriptures about LOVE. A very popular one is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a.
“Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant.
It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail].
Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]….
Wow! If we strove to LOVE like this, I think a lot of the issues we have of each other would begin to fade. How could we stay upset, or bitter toward one another if we LOVEd each other this way?
Our walk with God is a marathon, not a sprint. As Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 9:24, we are all runners in a race striving towards the prize of life eternal with Christ. During that race, we should continue growing in the LOVE described above.
Perfection is not required, but progress is.
So what does LOVE have to do with it? EVERYTHING when your LOVE aligns with GOD’s kind of LOVE.
