Making new and growing disciples for Jesus Christ…
The surest way to invite dissension and disunity in any church is to succumb to the cultural pressures to take a public position on every controversial issue out there. I chose long ago as a Christian leader to be defined solely by a mission of "connecting people to Jesus Christ."
I will take my stand on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that sin can be forgiven, lives can be restored and the purpose for which we were created can be discovered. I believe people need to get saved, sanctified, filled with the Holy Ghost, roll up their sleeves, stop their whining and change the world.
Bam!
I have found that people of many conflicting positions on other issues have been able to rally around our clear and unambiguous mission. As a result, Christ Church has been blessed by both rich diversity and spiritual unity despite a divided and contentious larger culture. When we stay on mission, we grow and live. When we get our eyes on other things, we invite conflict and death.
Every day we have the opportunity to blurt out yet another opinion or to invite someone to Jesus.
I choose the later.
Always have.
Always will.
