Yesterday, a contingent of Pine Street members joined a large, diverse group of people of faith and good will in a Peace Pilgrimage across downtown Harrisburg, and got to extend some Pine Street hospitality in the Gathering Place afterwards.
Pine Street was the final stop in a Peace Pilgrimage led by downtown faith leaders, stopping for readings of Scripture and prayer at downtown houses of worship to "offer a unified response to the forces of conflict and violence."
Pastor Stuart offered this prayer based on Micah 4:1-5:
God of the ages,
Our days seem covered in confusion and iced over with fear, and we struggle to see that your days are surely coming. Cast away the fog of distrust and despair, so we can see your highest mountain within eyeshot, beyond lesser hills of human power.
For you are a God who call us to follow. We find you on the move: across nations and peoples, on pathways of peace and in the face of our neighbors, in active witness to your Word and humble obedience to your instruction. Guide us and protect us while we yet walk this uncertain path.
Prepare us, too, for a day we might stop and, together, get to work, beating weapons of war into tools of harvest, repurposing human plots and prejudice into holy wisdom and holy worship. Raise for us vines of rest and protection from constant outrage and persistent fear.
And when we find our resting places threatened by false gods of cynicism and complacency, give us the courage to walk yet further--in the trust that we do not walk this way alone and in the certain hope that your peace endures forever.
In Christ’s name we pray,
Amen.
