Dale Wren, 66, of Marion, passed away at 2:22 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Deaconess Regional Healthcare in Marion, surrounded by his loving family.

Dale was born on September 12, 1959, in Harrisburg to Franklin and Judy (Hicks) Wren. On November 22, 2008, he married the love of his life, Lisa Sanders, at Gaskin City Missionary Baptist Church. She survives.

He was a 1977 graduate of Harrisburg High School and attended Southeastern Illinois College. Dale retired after a dedicated career as a correctional officer at the Vienna Correctional Center and was previously employed with Old Ben Coal and Peabody Coal Mines.

Dale was a longtime man of faith. He attended Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church and was a devoted member of Gaskin City Missionary Baptist Church for 27 years. He and Lisa enjoyed working out at the HUB in Marion, where they made many friendships. Dale loved sports, the outdoors, bird watching, and spending time watching deer. He and Lisa especially enjoyed traveling to the Smoky Mountains, hiking, and trips to Branson.

Dale had a strong faith in his Lord and Savior. In his final act of generosity, he was an organ donor and was able to save three lives.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Wren of Marion; his brother and sister-in-law, Mark (Kelly) Wren of Harrisburg; two nieces, Megan (John) Fuller of Equality and McKayla (Casey) Goins of Henderson, Kentucky; one nephew, Kevin Hill of Corinth; one great-niece, Wrenlee Fuller; three great-nephews, Krue Fuller, Macen Goins, and Bradyn Hill; sister-in-law, Sherri (Bryan) Hill; brother-in-law, Alan Sanders; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Chris Puttman; his in-laws, Marc and Carol Sanders; and his great-nephew, John David Fuller Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastors Kenny Blumenstock, Kevin McNeely, and Andy Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church on the day of service.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements.
