FATHERS

My dad was a visionary – he had a dream for a better life for his family and he kept his promise. He was persistent and determined against many obstacles. Why a picture of both on Father’s Day?

The Bible reminds us that we should honor our father and mother” [Ex. 20:12]. Both of our parents are vital – he had the dream but could not have accomplished it without my mom. As you honor your parents, there is a promise, “So that you may live long life …” [Ex. 20:12b]. Fathers, “Don’t irritate your children, instead bring them up in the Lord” [Col 3:21]. Joshua said, “As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord!” [Josh. 24:15]. Fathers, are you actively involved with your wife in pointing your family to God?

So, on this Father’s Day, if he is living, honor him by making him proud. Call and thank him for all he has done for you. If he is in heaven, make him pleased by putting into practice all the lessons that he taught you. How? Tell your kids and grandkids how he made a difference in your life. My dad didn’t teach me hunting or fishing, but he taught me the importance of family!

The greatest tribute a boy can give to his father is to say, “When I grow up, I want to be just like my dad!” [B. Graham].

Thank you for my dad who took time to point me to my heavenly Father. Amen
