Today, especially today, I am so glad to be a Global Methodist Pastor, serving a Global Methodist Congregation. Although some have thrown shade at the GMC and criticized it calling it a "cult" or other things even worse.
The GMC is a church of the Called not the Coerced. We believe in holiness and grace. No church is forced into the GMC or forced to stay if they feel like the theology, structure or doctrine is not for them.
I pray for the many congregations that are part of another denomination that were told, "wait and see...there will always be another way out" and have now been told their church is not allowed to leave. They didn't realize the other way, would be to walk out the front door and leave their building. history, memories, and hard work behind.
Yet, the 23rd psalm reminds us that God is with us when we walk through these dark places. He will lead us to a place of calm and rest. As the old praise song says, "though the sorrow may last through the night, His joy comes in the morning." (Trading My Sorrows)
Remember, "The Church is not a building. The Church is not a steeple. The Church is not a resting place. The Church is the people."
There is a movement of the Holy Spirit that is taking place that is renewing the lives of many people. Folks are coming to the GMC from other denominations but also from out of the world. We have had many people come into Harned Methodist Church and Horsley Chapel Methodist Church with little to no church background. They are discovering a God who loves them deeply. They are building a new foundation on the Cornerstone of Christ. Their lives are changing for the better. And not just sitting in a pew on Sunday morning, but also growing in faith. Challenging themselves with intentional spiritual growth. Seeking holiness in their lives through Study, Prayer, and Actions that show their faith to the world.
The news that the UMC has closed off any means by which churches can leave is sad news. They will spin it like it is a victory for the church of God, but anytime a church uses coercion to keep its people from being free, then it is no longer a church but a structure trying to maintain power and control.
If you find yourself in a situation where you have been told to believe what we tell you to believe, or just leave. Know that there are many Global Methodist Churches springing up all around. There are several in Breckinridge County, KY. Grace still exists and we are here to welcome you into a NEW HOME and help you continue to grow in your faith in and through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
