The Salvation Army of Harlingen

The Salvation Army of Harlingen The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Chu Please call to know the distribution date(s).

The Salvation Army Cameron-Willacy Counties offers various programs and services to all residents in the area. Please call our office for more information about the requirements and/or to make an appointment with our caseworker for any of the following services:
Clothing: We provide clothing to children and adults in need through vouchers. Clients may redeem the vouchers at The Salvation Army Fami

ly Store. We also distribute winter coats to those in need through the Tim’s Coats Program—a partnership between KRGV’s weatherman, Tim Smith, and local dry cleaners to provide coats, jackets, and sweaters to those in need. While persons in need of clothing vouchers must call and make an appointment with our case worker, walk-ins are welcome for those in need of a winter coat.
-Food Pantry: We provide clients with items from our food pantry on a case-by-case basis only. We refer residents to local food pantries in their cities for non-emergencies as well.
-Hygiene Kits: When available, hygiene kits for clients include the following:
Toothbrush/toothpaste-Shampoo-Body soap-Pampers/wipes-Toiletry items
-Furniture/Household Items: We distribute furniture/household items to clients (i.e. victims of a burnt home) on an emergency basis and upon furniture availability. Documentation, such as a fire report and/or a referral letter from a Social Worker, Case Worker, Nurse, Pastor or other agency, is required. The referral letter must confirm that a home visit was damaged, and it must include a list of specific items needed.
-Rental Assistance: When funding is available at the 1st of each month, we provide individuals and families who qualify with a once-a-year rental assistance through our program and assist residents with a partial payment showing a lease or notice of the landlord/manager/owner.
-Shelter: We do not have a shelter locally and we refer requests to our Salvation Army shelter in McAllen or to the local Loaves & Fishes Shelter in Harlingen.
-Fans for Friends: The Salvation Army partners with Channel 5 and HEB for the Fans for Friends program to provide free fans to community members in need of a cooling unit during the summer. The amount of fans is limited and are done by appointment.
-Emergency Disaster Services: Our team has assisted for over 77 years in relief efforts, such as at the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Dolly, tornadoes in Oklahoma and in Texas, and with local wild fires. Volunteers to serve in these emergencies are accepted but a course will need t be completed to qualify. Call to obtain further information.
-Family Stores: Our Family Stores are open to the public where people can donate and/or shop. Donated clothes, furniture, household items and vehicles (i.e. cars, motorhomes, travel trailers) are sold at our Family Stores. The income raised through the sale of these items benefits the programs/services we offer to the community.
-Angel Tree Program: Each year The Salvation Army assists needy families during the holiday season through the Angel Tree Program. This program involves the community in a direct way, allowing them to become personally involved by sharing Christmas gifts with those less fortunate in the community. Children who are recipients of Angel Tree gifts are from families who have demonstrated a financial need through requirements and applied for Christmas assistance through our Social Services department. We take information from parents who come and register their children with us. We register clothing and shoe sizes and special needs of the children and then transfer the information, including the child’s first name, age, sex, gift wants & needs, to paper “angels.”
Then, individuals and partnering corporations may personally buy a gift for a child in need by adopting an Angel and purchasing gifts for that child. After choosing an Angel and purchasing the gifts, the gifts are returned unwrapped to The Salvation Army facility or to “Santa’s Secret Workshop” where we distribute the gifts to the families a few days before Christmas. Last year in Harlingen The Salvation Army helped 215 families and a total of 560 children who received over 7,502 toys. If you would like to participate in the Angel Tree Program which begins in September, please call our Office. Schedule of Worship & Activities

School may pause for summer, but learning doesn’t have to. Summer doesn’t need to be a season where kids fall behind. ☀️📉

At The Salvation Army, we want summer to be a season where your children leap forward - and we are committed to this statement!

From Summer Day Camp for daytime adventures to Summer Sleepaway Camps for a week-long immersive experience that encourages independence and lasting memories, to youth programs and summer music conservatories, The Salvation Army gives children and teenagers a place to learn, play, explore, and stay rooted in community.

We help young minds stay bright.✨

There’s something admirable about the World Cup ⚽. How is it that one game has the power to bring thousands of people together, cheering with one voice? 📣

Giving creates the same sense of unity, as one act of kindness impacts an entire community and lifts up neighbors in need, regardless of their language or background. That’s something worth cheering!

You can support the mission and give in the way that feels right to you.

This season, join the team that gives with joy and let your generosity turn it into something that brings real transformation in the lives of our neighbors.

Summer heat doesn’t affect everyone the same way, and extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at risk.

A broken AC, a home without shade, or a night without relief can turn a heat wave into a crisis.

That’s why this season matters, and The Salvation Army is stepping in to offer cool spaces, water, utility bill assistance, and support for neighbors who need help staying safe this summer. ☀️

Reach out locally if you need assistance or if you can lend a hand. ✨

It's a place to grow, be known, and lift one another up through every season.

At The Salvation Army, we’d love to welcome you this Sunday. Come as you are to our worship centers, and leave encouraged.

There’s a place for you here.

🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm doughnut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across The Salvation Army find comfort, support, and hope through our programs.

🍩 National Donut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, walking with people in recovery, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do…together.

National Donut Day is this Friday, June 5!
More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. It was a wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our food pantries 🍽️, food parcel services 📦, and mobile food pantries 🚚.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.
