South Scipio Church Helping people grow in their love for God and their love for others...
The Church on the Corner That Cares!

WHAT WE BELIEVE...

The Triune God
In the name of God, we declare and confess before men that we believe in the only true God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; that these three are one–the Father in the Son, the Son in the Father, and the Holy Ghost equal in essence or being with both; that this triune God created the heavens and the earth and all that in them is, visible as well as invisible, and furthermore sustains, governs, protects, and supports the same. Jesus Christ, the Son
We believe in Jesus Christ; that He is very God and man; that He became incarnate by the power of the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary and was born of her; that He is the Savior and Mediator of the whole human race, if they with full faith in Him accept the grace proffered in Jesus; that this Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us, was buried, arose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God to intercede for us; and that He shall come again at the last day to judge the quick and the dead. The Holy Spirit, Comforter and Guide
We believe in the Holy Ghost; that He is equal in being with the Father and the Son, and that He comforts the faithful, and guides them into all truth. The Church
We believe in a holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. The Holy Bible and Salvation
We believe that the Holy Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God; that it contains the only true way to our salvation; that every true Christian is bound to acknowledge and receive it with the influence of the Spirit of God as the only rule and guide; and that without faith in Jesus Christ, true repentance, forgiveness of sins, and following after Christ, no one can be a true Christian. The Salvation Message
We also believe that what is contained in the Holy Scriptures, to wit: the fall in Adam and redemption through Jesus Christ, shall be preached throughout the world. The Christian Ordinances
We believe that the ordinances, viz. baptism and the remembrance of the sufferings and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, are to be in use and practiced by all Christian societies; and that it is incumbent on all the children of God particularly to practice them; but the manner in which ought always to be left to the judgment and understanding of every individual. Also, the example of washing feet is left to the judgment of every one to practice or not; but it is not becoming of any of our preachers or members to traduce any of their brethren whose judgment and understanding in these respects is different from their own, either in public or in private. Whosoever shall make himself guilty in this respect shall be considered a traducer of his brethren, and shall be answerable for the same.

THE TWELVE
Every Minor Prophet Leads Us to Christ
What do you do when you discover that the holy God you trust is coming to judge the very sin that surrounds you?
What do you do when religious heritage, earthly wealth, and human power cannot protect you from the coming judgment of God?
That's where we meet Zephaniah.
Last time, Habakkuk reminded us that we can trust God even when we don't understand His ways. But Zephaniah takes us to the sobering reality of the Day of the LORD—and the promise that God will save and rejoice over His people.
Zephaniah takes us from coming judgment… to a call to seek the LORD… to the glorious promise of God dwelling among His people.
And we're confronted with a question we all must face: When the Day of the LORD comes, where will your hope be?
God's judgment is real—but so is His salvation. Our hope is not in what we can do to save ourselves, but in the God who comes to save His people.
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save…” Zephaniah 3:17
We're still walking the road to Emmaus.
We're still opening the Old Testament.
And we're still looking for Jesus.
Because every Minor Prophet leads us to Christ.

THE TWELVE
Every Minor Prophet Leads Us to Christ
What do you do when you pray for God to stop the wickedness around you… and His answer is nothing like what you expected?
What do you do when injustice seems to win, the wicked seem to prosper, and God's ways make no sense?
That's where we meet Habakkuk.
Last time, Nahum reminded us that God will judge evil. But Habakkuk takes us into the difficult space between knowing God is just and waiting for Him to act.
Habakkuk takes us from desperate questions… to God's unexpected answer… to faith when everything else falls apart.
And we're confronted with a question we all face sooner or later: Can you trust God when you don't understand what He's doing?
Faith doesn't mean we always understand God's ways — it means we trust His character while we wait for His promises.
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18

THE TWELVE
Every Minor Prophet Leads Us to Christ
Last time, we continued our journey through The Twelve with Micah.
Micah took us from judgment… to hope… to a promised King… to Bethlehem… and finally to mercy — and reminded us that the God who calls us to walk humbly with Him is the God who pardons iniquity.
This Sunday, we meet Nahum.
And Nahum takes us back to a city we've already visited: Nineveh.
Jonah preached judgment. Nineveh repented. And God showed them mercy.
But generations later, Nineveh had become the capital of a brutal empire — and now Nahum comes with a very different message:
Nineveh is going down.
Nahum forces us to wrestle with a question we don't always like to ask:
How can a good, loving God judge?
And as we walk through Nahum, we'll see that the God who is merciful is also just — and that the God who judges sin is also a refuge for those who trust in Him.
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him…” Nahum 1:7

THE TWELVE
Every Minor Prophet Leads Us to Christ
Last time, we continued our journey through The Twelve with Jonah.
Jonah took us into a story of calling, rebellion, repentance, and mercy — and reminded us that “Something greater than Jonah is here.”
This Sunday, we meet Micah.
And Micah doesn't pull any punches.
He speaks to God's people — people who knew the Scriptures, worshiped, sacrificed, and knew the right answers.
But their lives didn't match their worship.
Micah asks a question that still cuts today: Are you actually walking with God… or are you simply doing things for God?
And then Micah takes us from judgment… to hope… to a promised King… to Bethlehem… and finally to mercy.
Because the prophet whose name asks, “Who is like the LORD?”, ends with an even greater question:
“Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity…” Micah 7:18
We're still walking the road to Emmaus.
We're still opening the Old Testament.
