Staff members speak in churches and at events, presenting on topics like forgiveness, grace, abiding in Christ, spiritual gifts and prayer. We

also encourage practicle service through community projects locally, nationally and internationally. It is our goal to serve the Church

It's been said that history doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme. We see events play out on the world stage, and in our own backyard, that demonstrate mankind's recurring tilt toward evil. If justice, mercy and humility are God's ideal, humans find ways to be unjust in their justice, cruel in their mercy and arrogant in their humility. There's nothing new under the sun.

Often times we don't think things through. In many ways we are just trying on ideas to see if they fit. But, once we've done the work to wedge ourselves into a fashionable idea, it becomes too much work to change. Let alone explain the logic of being there in first place. Judging God is the default human idea, that allows morality, purpose and responsibility to be self-determined. Cool. Just one thing. If you're going to judge God, then be prepared to answer for...everything. After all, you're wearing a self-determined suit.

Laughter comes of seeing incongruity between expectation and reality, and yet knowing there's a positive outcome possible. That's why when people make plans and God laughs, there's still a positive end to it. You see, He has a plan of His own and, unlike ours, it does match reality. The challenge is to abandon our short-sighted and selfish endeavors, which is hard because so much has been invested. But, better to accept a momentary loss for an eternal gain, than to be the laughingstock of heaven.

"There are none so blind as those who will not see (John Heywood, 16th century poet)." This is an insightful line that plays off of Biblical sayings in both old and new testaments. Willful blindness is bad enough at the personal level, but it's pure evil when found in leadership. Not only don't you see, but you tell other blind people that you see wonderful things ahead. The malevolence comes of leaders willfully twisting screams of pain into their own praise and adulation. They will not see it any other way. But the day will come when God will force open their eyes.

Silence is the sound of one hand clapping. Oh, wow, mysterious and deep, right? No, it's just an illustration of living life as if the force of our actions never meet opposing force. And yet, they do. Your life resounds with the impact of putting your will against the will of God. But God is merciful, personal, and motivated, so the interaction is unique to the benefit of your soul. You may notice that you've bounced off Something immovable before, and it has left you in the opposite place from where you were going. Poetic justice is like that.

It doesn't take a natural cataclysm to turn your life into a catastrophe. When the right dominoes fall a chain reaction can ruin all you thought was secure. It's a dark day to be sure, but the darkness didn't begin there. Creeping shadows gathered in the hearts of many, unchecked by those with light to see. It was not worth the risk of having your own darkness exposed. And then the day comes when individual darkness merges into collective malevolence and world ending justice must meet it. Yet, in the gloom of judgment, the King is Hope personified.

If you were high up in a tree, with certain death below, and yet chopping off the very limb that supports you, wouldn't it be logical for someone to deride you? Let's put all humanity in the tree, and you're chopping off their support limbs as well, now we're getting angry. It's silly, right? No one would ever do that. But there is a recurring theme of people, especially "powerful" people, fighting God. Going to war with the One who holds your existence in His hand is foolhardy. And in the end you lose that war and find yourself separated from life altogether.

Danger is often met with the "fight or flight" response. But there are times when doing neither is required. Tough as it may sound, it is better to stand in the face of dager than to run or react. When what's being attacked is rightness itself then both fighting and fleeing deny the inherent strength of rightness. But don't confuse this with standing in your own will to be right. No, God alone is the essence of righteousness. Stand in Him. Otherwise you're simply playing chicken with just desserts.

One of the most comforting Biblical compositions that's still in the common culture is Psalm 23. It speaks of restoration, quiet of soul, and protection from evil. Many read it in times of grief and despair; laying claim to it's assurances. But the key to unlocking them rests in the first phrase: "The Lord is my Shepherd." Well...is He? I mean, if God is not your Shepherd then why look to Him for comfort? On the other hand, if He is, then why be anxious for anything? Christ is worthy to shepherd you.

The difference between a blessed life and a cursed one is not found in wealth or prestige. The person without either of those can still feel blessed, just as the person with both can feel cursed. The human soul is more sensitive to spiritual alignment with God than to physical or social advantages. Trying to wring a blessed life out of self-sufficient spirituality will wither all that is good around you. Conversely, surrendering to God's grace washes away that cursed desiccating lie, and floods your view with blessing.

We imagine we have the power to make our will into reality. It could be as big as an innovative business that touches every person on the globe, or small, like winning at Candy Crush. But the illusion of control is inevitably smashed by the loving plans of God. Stuff doesn't work out, and it all goes downhill, fast. You can blame everyone and everything else, but the problem is your hubris, arrogance, and unrequieted will. God loves you enough to show your limitations. This is an invitation to harmonize with His sovereign will, rather than be broken by it.

"So you've gotten youself in a sticky situation." We understand this to mean that like falling face first on a freshly tarred roof, there's no simple way to extricate yourself from the mess. Life itself is a sticky situation. Just about the time we think we've got one hand free, we discover both feet are knee deep. It's hopeless; yet hope is not lost! God hears and sees you, and He moves to rescue, deliver and redeem. But you don't get to control how He saves; that's what got you stuck in the first place. Accept refuge and rejoice.
