A Prophetic Word through Pastor Jim Ward for Renew Church/Hancock
Transcribed from July 17, 2019 Night of Worship

Scripture: John 1:1-14

“This is a lighthouse unto the region that will be filled with the Light of Jesus Christ! ... And it will go out unto the region, and it will be filled with the Love of God, a living God. And it will shine forth the Love of God

by the power of His Holy Spirit. God will manifest His glory in this house! You will see people saved, you will see people delivered, you will see people healed, you will see lives changed, you will see people who were in darkness—that Light will call in people out of the darkness and bring them into a harbor of safe-keeping in this tumultuous world and the horrible things that are going on right now. This will be a place of Presence. This will be a place of the power of God. You will see healings and signs and wonders that have not been seen since the time of Jesus Christ. This is going to be a place of miracles. This going to be a place where the prodigals are going to come home, those that have been out—and they knew God at one time and they are now in the pigpens eating pea pods, and they’re going to be saying ‘surely in my Father’s house the servants are treated better than this.’ They are going to come into this house, and they’re going to be filled. And they’re going to come in with their heads hanging down, full of shame—but they are going to be delivered from that! They’re going to healed. The Father is going to throw a robe of righteousness upon them and put on a ring of ownership. And there will be celebration! This shall be a house of jubilee! This will be a house where God is alive and well and present, and the Love of God will be manifest. This is a lighthouse unto the region, and He will draw people from the north and the south and the east and the west. And they shall come, and there shall be an awakening and a great revival! God is about to shake things up, and all that can be shaken will be shaken. But His throne cannot be shaken, and we are His children because we believe in His Name!

Day starter…

“Regardless of whether you believe in Me—believe the miracles. Then you will know that the Father is in Me, and I am in the Father.” (John 10:38)…Everything about the Jesus we believe in and follow is miraculous. Everything. He says so. Then why do we act as if most everything in life is just coincidence, good vibes, or random acts of kindness?

When God so loved this world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16), it was more than a nice scripture to memorize or some random act of kindness. It was supernaturally miraculous, way beyond our understanding or explanations. Everything about His coming was a forerunner of who Jesus was, is and is to come. Awake, my soul, and consider this…

When Jesus was born, God didn’t send just any of His thousands upon thousands of angels, but one named Gabriel—the mighty one who is thought to be at God’s right hand. He was sent on a specific assignment, not by chance or coincidence. Not to just to any random city but specifically to little old and disrespected Nazareth. And not just to a what’s-her-name virgin in town but one He called by name, Mary, betrothed to a Joseph—and not any old Joseph, of which there were probably many in that city, but to one specifically of David’s line…Wow. Jesus’ birth, and His life and resurrection—and our new life in Christ—is nothing short of God’s targeted, loving miracle. No coincidences or good vibes. Lord, open our eyes today to remember that “with God, all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Day starter…

“Be still and know that I Am God” (Psalm 46:10)…We tend to forget that these words were written not in quiet but in an atmosphere of a lot of noise. Kind of like our world! The Bible tells us that stillness is beautiful and vital to the soul. But it can be hard to find. How on earth can we lead better “be still” lives?

It begins with not being caught up in just what we see. To pray: “Open my eyes so that I can see all the wonderful things in Your teachings. I feel like a stranger visiting here on earth. I need to know Your commands. Don’t keep them hidden from me.” (Psalm 119:18-19) A photographer may get caught up capturing all he can see and hear during the action of a game. He could leave it there and feel he lives in a noisy world. But he’d be missing the big picture. Awareness comes by looking at the stillness of the photos afterwards. In the screaming silence, you suddenly are aware of details and facial expressions of hurt, frustration, determination and joy that simply zipped by in the noise of the moment. You see people. You notice what’s important.

It's not unlike this photo when the roaring Atlantic tide comes to a screeching, mirror-like halt in the marshland. By taking a moment to be aware and see things from Heaven’s perspective, you notice not just a pretty reflection but a glorious one of heaven on earth. You notice what’s important in the midst of a chaotic world. Just as God desires it. Awareness is a spiritual discipline with an incredible uphill climb…but it’s so worth pursuing. Let’s be going…

Day starter…

“Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to people who are like these children.” (Mark 10:14)…The Bible says of this scene that Jesus was clearly angry with His disciples. What's with that? More than just an incident involving little kids, it would seem Jesus is serious about how we look at living life in His kingdom—and that it isn’t as adulting as we like to think.

So serious, in fact, that Jesus said, “The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child.” (Matthew 18:4) It’s a jolting reminder that to be child-like humble and trusting on this journey does not mean to be childish. It means…
* Having a kid’s untarnished heart to always learn and explore in wonder the things of God, leaving worldly cynicism and worry at the door.
* Remembering to love life and people simply because we know and love the One who made them all.
* Walking this journey in boldness and joy, even if there are a few sprained ankles along the way, because our Leader always knows the way and has got us in His grip.
* Trusting, feeling safe, always feeling welcome in the Father’s presence simply because “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1)
* Having a kid’s walkie-talkie lifestyle—always talking and listening to the Leader for guidance, always looking Up in honor and admiration—to the Mentor of all mentors.
* And remembering to smile and laugh…often.

A reminder to our adulting selves to carry this story with us, and carry it often, because it’s easy to forget that this is what walking with Jesus here on earth is supposed to look like. He says so. Let’s be going…

Day starter…

“…It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.” (Philippians 3:1)…Body builders often get stronger not by doing more reps of the same thing week after week, but by gradually adding more weight. The upside down world of the Gospel, however, suggests just the opposite—that we become stronger by building ourselves up on what we already know of God, or have heard or read a gazillion times before but are quick to forget (Jude 1:20).

Safeguard, at its root, implies protection and strength for the journey. Next time we’re tempted to say, “Oh, I’ve read this passage so many times,” it’s good to remember that reading/doing the same things again and again and expecting the Holy Spirit to produce a different result within us isn’t crazy—it’s entirely sane. Repetition is not only strength for the journey, it can drive us forward. Let’s be going…

Day starter…

“This is the work of God: that you believe, adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith in the One whom He has sent.” (John 6:29)…There are numerous books on how to be a disciple of Jesus, how to be a better disciple, how to grow as a disciple, how to make a disciple—evidence that we’ve been searching for a secret missing ingredient that will somehow unlock everything we need to know about following Jesus. And yet Jesus’ response, over and over again, is simply “believe who I Am, watch what I do, then go and do likewise.”

Go live the simple Gospel. Because it’s been the people who have walked out this simple yet not simplistic lifestyle before us who have influenced us more than any book or study. These simple Gospel disciples have made our heart burn within as it did with the two disciples on the Emmaus road (Luke 24:13-35), almost as if all within was sensing, “here’s the secret missing ingredient!”

We may not remember a lot else, but we came away with a lasting impression of that simple Gospel person, and thought, “If that’s what a disciple of Jesus looks like, I want in.” In these complicated, confusing, information-overload times, it’s good to remember what it’s like being drawn to that kind of following-Jesus-simply beyond Sunday morning disciple. One that looks like not feeling like you have to change the world by yourself, but instead remembering Jesus’ exhortation to simply be salt and light, seasoning it wherever you go. To just be a simple gospel person to someone else. Let’s be going…

Day starter…

“And God said…and it was so.” (Genesis 1:7)…It’s no coincidence that, depending on what version of the Bible you read, those words are mentioned seven times in Genesis 1—almost as if God put them there for us as a One-a-Day vitamin reminder.

When we read the Word, it says many amazing, true and profound things, but sometimes it leaves a mystery. And we want answers! But the trusting response by characters in the Bible (like Mary, Joseph and the shepherds, for example) to what the Lord said versus what they could see in front of their eyes, is great encouragement for us, too—to keep trusting and obeying Him in a world that is screaming at great volume to do otherwise.

“And God said…and it was so.” How great is our God! Sometimes, worship is giving praise to God during a church service. But in the day-to-day grind of life, real and deeper worship is simply walking, trusting, obeying, and resting in the acknowledgement that “God is God and I am not”—and that is all we need to know. It’s “…the attitude of being content not to pry into what God has chosen to keep secret but to live by what one has heard Him say. Reverence includes unwillingness to go a single step beyond what scripture says. When we reach the outer limits of what scripture tells us, it is time to stop arguing and start worshiping.” (J.I. Packer) Let’s be going…

Day starter...

“May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace in your faith, that by the power of the Holy Spirit, your whole life and outlook may be radiant with hope.” (Romans 15:13)

It’s time to pull over and shut off our engine.
It’s time for a “hope” refill.
A hope that isn’t wishful thinking but anchored in the only One with a perfect resume.
A hope that isn’t "out there somewhere” but that’s as real and as close as your next breath.
A hope that’s the perfect theme song for this often-crazy-unpredictable Journey.
Especially right now.
The kind of hopeful tune that’s good to have stuck in your head.
A hope that restores…perhaps joy unspeakable, but joy nonetheless.
A hope that brings deep, unexplainable peace…
Inner peace, when all else is screaming “what’s going on?!”
And a hope that trusts in Him, because He’s never failed, and He never will.
Refill…with the “God of hope.”
All paid for.
It doesn’t get any better than that.
Let’s be going…

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, whatever you’re going through—embrace the Word today, and keep going…

“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.
Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out His plans, listening for each of His commands.
Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve Him and do His will!
Praise the Lord, everything He has created, everything in all His kingdom.
Let all that I am praise the Lord.” (Psalm 103, selected)

Day starter…

“Ears to hear and eyes to see — both are gifts from the Lord.” (Proverbs 20:12)…God is so awesome and huge that He can’t be contained by days, events, people, or our own limited understanding of just about everything. And He’s so awesome and huge that no two ears and eyes are ever alike, and each one hears and sees things differently—like this photo of Maggie, Jen and Dave— that others cannot but that someone needs to hear and see.

In the same way, to each Maggie, Jen and Dave, He has given unique hands, feet, intellect, creativity, and more.
Our God is so awesome and huge that none of these have ever been duplicated. Ever.
On purpose. For others. For His glory.
Every detail of all that He has ever made matters, and every life He has ever made — yours and mine and others — matters.
Our God is so awesome and huge, in magnificence, presence, and Love, that He is too big to be confined to just a church building on Sundays.
His Church has no walls...just eyes, ears, hands and feet, 24/7.
And no one, no place, no back road and no prayer closet is beyond His notice and care.
And that means that you and I, no matter who we are or where we’re from or what we’ve got going for us, are here — wherever here may be — on purpose, and for His purpose.
Ears to hear, eyes to see, and everything else.
Like Maggie, Jen and Dave, each one of us is no accident.
We are gifts to others in the hands of the Lord.
And today’s a really good day to remember all that.
