www.olamnuns.com In 1961, Mother Angelica, a Poor Clare nun from Canton, Ohio, came to Irondale, Alabama with four other nuns in order to establish a new monastery. Twenty years later, having seen the potential to reach many souls throughout the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by means of electronic media, she founded the Eternal Word Television Network. This

network grew from a small studio in the monastery garage to become the largest religious media network in the world. As a result of such incredible growth, Mother sensed the need to re-establish the contemplative religious life of the nuns away from the busyness of the network. Upon visiting the Sanctuary of the Divine Jesus in Bogota, Columbia, she was inspired to build a resplendent temple of worship for the Lord. Construction was completed in three and a half years and the Shrine was dedicated on December 19, 1999.

On Monday, June 15, 2026 we will begin a construction project which will provide much needed repairs to our St. Francis Courtyard, leading into the Reception Area and Lower Church. If you’ve visited the Shrine recently, you’ve likely noticed the cracked tiles and broken steps.

This project will entail extensive demolition and reconstruction and will last 3-4 weeks. The project will repair and improve the walkway, steps and wheelchair ramp in the courtyard to ensure the safety of our visitors for years to come.

What does that mean for you?

During the construction period, all foot traffic to the Reception Area, Restrooms and Lower Church will be routed through the Main Church. A temporary wheelchair ramp has been installed at the front of the Church.

How can you help?

We ask that when walking through the Main Church, strict silence is kept out of respect for Our Lord present in the Most Blessed Sacrament and our Nuns who are in a constant vigil of prayer before Him.

As always, the Shrine and Monastery is run completely on the generous donations of you, our benefactors. The Shrine, now over 25 years old, is constantly in need of maintenance and repairs. If you wish to make a donation, please visit olamshrine.com/donate. May God reward you!

New blog post from our PCPA Nuns

One thing that I particularly love about St. Anthony of Padua is his humble silence.

While he was known as an incredible preacher in his day, the thing he is most known for is nothing remotely scholarly, but as a hero in an area that is one of the most humble and basic in this fallen world:

he operates as a finder of lost objects. 👀

Chances are, if you know nothing else about St. Anthony, you do know that.

His skill is shockingly reliable, and oftentimes I have found that if you don’t find it right away, it’s because he’s working with God’s timing—which sometimes is not ours.

Other things that St. Anthony teaches me: patience, yes,

and also that even saints have their fun quirks.

He had a deep thing for treehouses. Towards the end of his life, he actually lived in one.

Friars participate at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament for Corpus Christi. The Mass and procession was televised by EWTN. The Friars and those in attendance partook of the occasion with great devotion. Due due weather the procession took place indoors. Nonetheless, the Shrine was filled with people of every age focused on the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
