Father’s Place of Rest

Father’s Place of Rest To bring a revelation and manifestation of Father God's love to the church and to the community, a love that will change the world.

Pastors Allen and Debbie Kemp, after 30 years of pastoring two churches, have come to know the intimate love of God as Father, as Papa, having their hearts radically healed and filled up in 2012. We have been called to bring the message and revelation of this Agape love to wherever we are invited to teach/speak and into the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia where we live. Our waterfront

home in Hampton Roads, on the James River, is a place people can come and rest, to experience the beauty of Father loving them, and to share in the sweet fellowship of God's kids loving each other.

We are approaching the winder solstice, the shortest day of the year. Already the sun has set as early as it will for the winter. This means outside, where it’s cold and snow is on its way today, my vegetable garden is brown, the lettuce harvest complete, flowers have dried up and I’ve even removed all the flower pots from the porch, just outside the windows where I’m sitting right now. But there is still a deep beauty, there is something going on beyond what eyes see and ears hear. God is still speaking.

Reading in Hosea 14 in the New Living Translation this morning I saw something that seemed familiar, something from long ago, in the 1970’s when I was in college.

4 The LORD says,
“Then I will heal you of your faithlessness;
my love will know no bounds,
for my anger will be gone forever.
5 I will be to Israel
like a refreshing dew from heaven.
Israel will blossom like the lily;
it will send roots deep into the soil
like the cedars in Lebanon.
6 Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees,
as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon.
7 My people will again live under my shade.
They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines.
They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon.

I used to sing this song while playing the piano, privately in the sound booths in the music department, letting the words “Comfort Ye My People” hold my heart and fill me with hope.

During Advent we consciously remind ourselves of God’s greatest gift to humanity- His Son Jesus Christ. Because we have received this Blessing into our hearts, He continues to speak to us “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” (Acts 20:35).

Today’s proverbs, 28:27, puts it strongly: “For the one giving to the poor, there is no poverty; but for the one closing his eyes, great curse.”

The NLT translates this “Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close his eyes to poverty will be cursed.”

Generosity to the poor is the heart of Gospel. Advent celebrates and obeys the Gospel.

Today is the first day of Advent, on the first day of December, the month completing our year 2025. Adventus- Latin for the “coming” or the “arrival” of God in the person of Jesus Christ into our world.

1 John 2:2 (my daily Bible reading) tells us Jesus came because when we sin we need an Advocate, a righteous Counselor and Helper. He “came” to fulfill the Law by living a perfect life, completely without sin. He also “came” to be the atoning sacrifice, a “propitiation,” for our sins, where by faith in him he pays the price for our sins and makes us right with God.

But “Advent” is more than celebrating this past historical event. It’s about something happening now, for you. 1 John 2:5 says “But the one keeping His Word, (the Law of loving your neighbor as yourself), in this one truly the love of God is being made complete (perfect).”

Christ not only came into the world over 2000 years ago, He comes now, today, December 1, 2025 pouring real love into our hearts. Making us complete, perfecting us like Jesus. As this love transforms us and it changes our world.

May this be a “first day” of Advent for us. The beginning of a season where love comes into us from God the Father and flows out of us to others. May we “complete” this year 2025 with God’s perfect love filling us and overflowing from us.

Short, cool days mean beautiful sunsets at Father’s Place of Rest.

This Advent I will be posting things God is showing and teaching me as I finish up reading the Bible in a year.

I am “Back on the farm,” at Butalale near Sekanyonyi. Arrived in the dark last night and it rained all morning today. Our students are arriving today. I’m in a new hut but by myself, missing Debbie.

Since returning from walking the El Camino de Santiago in May my favorite part of the day is early morning alone with Father either on our pier out front, the front porch, or our Quiet Time room chair looking out the window. I listen to an App called “Pray As You Go,” with a 6-8 minute devotional Scripture reading, worship, meditation, and prayer. It’s so good.

Sunrise this morning.
