We named the order of our planets, The Solar System…. In our marriages, we might have a system of date nights, babysitters, communication, love notes, texts…etc. The vision is a healthy marriage…the system is how we get there. I believe that in the Psalms God has revealed to us a system…
Think about the Psalms for a minute
The only book in the Bible where man is crying out to God…So, it is in essence, prayers, songs…cries of help, praise, frustration…cries of life to the only One capable of helping us….it is man reaching up to God. The Psalms covers the range of human emotions…Oh, God….I am in distress…… Oh, God, I can’t sleep…oh, God, all day I am pursued by the enemy… Oh, God, when will You help? But there is usually a turning point in each Psalm…if you will read them and pay attention…it can often start out in distress…but that one verse comes in that says something like…But then I remember, Oh God…how You have delivered me in times past…I remember how You brought over our ancestors, how You parted the seas…I remember how last time I thought I was going to die, You swooped down, and brought victory just in time….there’s a turning point where the psalmist mind goes from an inward and outward focus (feelings and circumstances) to an upward focus…of remembering who God is…
And it ends with a determined stubborn praise…of pure reliance on the fact that because He did it before, He will do it again. Because I trust His Character, I can keep on going…. In the Psalms, I believe God has revealed to us a system for overcoming ANYTHING the enemy brings against us. A system of praise, a system of worship. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that we should have a system in place for when the enemy attacks? When on the mountain, when in the valley, when being pursued by the enemy, when we can’t sleep, when our marriage is in trouble…Praise is our weapon. Praise is the way out. Praise takes us out of our situation and puts us slam in the middle of His presence. Like a hurt child runs to his parents…it doesn’t take away all the pain, but it sure helps to be in daddy’s arms…suddenly my heart is quieted, the panicking stops, and I am satisfied just being near Him. So I encourage you, I encourage us, I encourage myself…to remember that when the enemy comes in like a flood…that God WILL raise up a standard against him…all we have to do is stay in His presence…and we get there, through praise and worship. Therefore, we introduce to you: System of Worship.
