When we follow Jesus and His words, we find the life we were made for. Please be encouraged to continue pursuing the five main principles: Being, Forgiving, Serving, Giving and Going.
Thank you for doing this challenge with Ryan and I. We loved it and we truly benefited in so many ways by reading the Red Letter Challenge together. We look forward to discovering what He has planned for us when we meet again for the start of Sunday school in the fall. Enjoy the rest of your summer! ♥️

🔴Day 40🔴 Go therefore and make disciples. Matthew 28:19
Following Jesus is the greatest opportunity we will ever have! The disciples understood this. It’s why they immediately followed Jesus. To understand what a disciple is one must go back to the time Jesus was born. Jesus was born in Israel, and the people who were most highly regarded and respected in Israel were those who taught the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament. A teacher of the Torah was known as a rabbi. This was a highly respected position. In the New Testament, Jesus was referred to as rabbi 14 times and as teacher 40 times. For a young boy growing up in Israel, to be a rabbi was the greatest thing that could happen to you. The second greatest thing would be to become a follower of a rabbi. It took a great deal of work to become a disciple of a rabbi and by the time a boy was 10 years old, the Jewish boy would have all of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy memorized. At this point, many boys would return home to learn to trade. Some students, however, had a special gift, and they’d be excepted to move onto the next levels. They would keep memorizing and by age 14 have the entire Hebrew Scripture memorized. Only the best of the best made it.
But the disciples Jesus chose, weren’t the best of the best. He didn’t wait for people to ask to follow Him. Instead, He went to a tax collector named Matthew. He went to guys who didn’t make it through rabbi school, unschooled and ordinary men like Peter, Andrew, James, and John. These people didn’t deserve to follow after the greatest rabbi ever!
A rabbi of that day would bless a student with these words: “May you be covered by the dust of your rabbi.” In other words, may you follow your rabbi so closely that when his feet kick up dust, it covers you.
Do you want to go and make disciples? Live in the dust of Jesus. It’ll happen.
Luke 5:27-32
Challenge: It is imperative that you become a disciple or follower of Jesus. If you haven’t already, can you identify one or two people who are mature disciples of Jesus and ask them to mentor you? If you are already a mature follower of Jesus Christ, seek out one or two people you could mentor.

🔴Day 39🔴 You did not choose me, but I chose and appointed you. John 15:16
As we wrap up this challenge, remember that God loves you for who you are. God chose you to be His son or His daughter before the foundations of the world even existed and before you ever did a thing. You don’t have to earn your way into a relationship with God. And He has not chosen you because of your effort or because you’ve done anything important, but simply because He loves you. And who you think you are, will determine what decisions you make, and how you live your life. Your identity was given to you by God and it was confirmed when your sins were nailed to the cross. Why would we look to anyone or anything other than God for our identity?

On a popular tv show, “The Voice”- singers perform in front of celebrity judges with their backs turned to the singers as the singers pour out everything they have on stage. The judges will listen and if they like the singer, the judges will then hit a button, forcing their chair to turn around. Then a light will shine across the bottom of the chair displaying these words “I want you” - that meant the judge liked hearing them so much that they pick them, sight unseen, to be on their team. Similarly, a lot of us go through our lives like these contestants do. We are auditioning for everyone around us. We are trying to win the approval of whoever the judges are that we’ve appointed to sit in chairs we’ve furnished in our minds. We keep thinking of ways to get the people in our lives to like us more. To approve of our lives. We try really hard and we run really fast to do all that we can to gain approval in this world. And the craziest part about all of this is that the God who made us has already chosen us and already loves us, not based on how well we sang or based on anything we can do in this world. In fact, before we even audition, God has not just turned His chair around, but He’s already come down off his seat from the throne room of heaven, to declare “I want you.”
“God has issued an announcement from His throne in heaven, and He wants you to know, the audition has been canceled. He has not chosen you blindly, but intentionally, even while knowing you inwardly and intimately. And let me tell you why this is some of the best news in the history of the universe: if this God has chosen you while totally knowing even the worst parts of you, then you no longer have to live up to anyone or anything!
Jeremiah 1:4-10
Challenge: just as God chose you before you ever did anything to please Him, choose someone today who hasn’t done anything to earn your favor and find a way to bless that person.

🔴Day 38🔴 Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
This is a pretty intimidating quote. For some people, this is where they will really need God’s presence to go with them, because they are afraid of telling someone about Jesus. They think, “I’ll do all the other things, I’ll forgive, I’ll serve, I’ll be generous, but don’t make me open my mouth!” There is a time to show people who Jesus is through our actions, but there is absolutely a time to speak as well. It’s not an either/or, it’s of both/and. We need to show people who God is through our actions and we need to speak the Gospel. We’ve lost our boldness when it comes to speaking about God. Why is that? If God has truly died on the cross for us and paid the price that we deserve to pay, if He has literally rescued us from hell, wouldn’t we want to share that good news with others? But God can turn our fear into confidence.
Many times throughout scripture God commands His people to proclaim who He is. Not only that, but He sends us with His Holy Spirit so we can have confidence. We don’t have to go out with fear and timidity, but instead, we can operate from a position of power and strength. When we do force ourselves to be uncomfortable, we experience God in ways we otherwise would have missed. He has always shown up. He never leaves us or forsakes us. There are far too many people out there who don’t know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is our job to both show and tell them who Jesus Christ is. Let’s not wait.
Ezekiel 37:1-10
Challenge: write down 5 people in your life who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Talk to one of them today. Make a plan over the next month to talk to the other four.

🔴Day 37🔴 Go and proclaim the kingdom of God. Luke 9:60
What does the kingdom of God mean for us and how important is it in our lives today? Many churches teach the “Gospel of Forgiveness of Sins.” This is the gospel that Jesus came, lived a perfect life, died on a cross for your sins, and now offers grace to you through forgiveness of your sins. If you believe in Jesus as your Savior, then all your sins are forgiven and you can enter into eternal life with Him. That is amazing news!
But it’s only a piece of the Gospel. It’s not the entirety of the good news.
Consider this situation: an upright citizen comes to his pastor and says “I’m going to divorce my wife.”The pastor, of course, would say “You can’t do that.” The man says, “of course I can, you’ve said that Jesus will forgive my sins if I believe that he died on the cross.” What would the pastor say next? What could the pastor say next? If all you had was the “Gospel of Forgiveness of Sins,” then there’s really no good response. Jesus would forgive him. Or would he? That’s where the Kingdom of God comes in. The Kingdom of God teaches us that Christ came to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life for all who believe, but it also teaches us that it’s not just about forgiveness. The Kingdom of God is also reaping the benefits and rewards now because our eternal life has already started! And we get to participate with God in bringing the Kingdom of God to this world right now.
Here’s how it works: I’ve made a mess of my life. God forgives me. I am so compelled by Christ’s kindness and grace that I can’t help but want to serve Him with my life.
There is the “Gospel of the Forgiveness of Sins” which is what makes us right before God and allows us to enter into eternal life with Him in heaven. But there’s also the “Gospel of the Kingdom of God” which gives us hope for today and compels us to become like Jesus today. We can look more and more like Jesus as we follow after him as we are led by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus began his ministry in Matthew 4 with these words: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus is announcing to us the availability of the Kingdom of God and inviting us to be a part of that. This invitation is open to all. He wants us all to be saved and live with Him in Heaven forever. But even more importantly, he wants us to have good news today that God lives and reigns in you and you can make a difference and bring His kingdom right here and right now. Throughout the book of Acts, Paul is hoping to share the Gospel in Rome. As you can see from this short piece of scripture, some people believed and others didn’t. It’s not up to you to determine what your words and your testimony produce, it’s up to you to simply share your story. Obedience is your responsibility. Outcome is God‘s responsibility. Acts 28:23-31. Challenge: record your testimony and share it on social media.
