St. Abrahams Lutheran Church 4029 Beckleysville Road
Hampstead, MD 21074

Sundays:
Sunday School - 9:30 a.m. Morning Service - 9:30 a.m. Come Grow With Us!

We are a small church but are very active in the community and participate in a wide variety of activities. Located in the small town of Beckleysville, St. Abrahams was once called Shavers Church or Abrahams Church. The country ministry was an important part of the community of Beckleysville, which by 1875 was a thriving town with a population of 400 due to the Beckley Paper Mill.

Tomorrow, November 30th is the beginning of Advent in the liturgical year. It is a time of waiting and preparation for the celebration of Jesus's birth at Christmas, beginning on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. Common practices include Advent calendars, lighting the candles on an Advent wreath, praying an Advent daily devotional, erecting a Chrismon tree, as well as other activities. Each candle represents a specific ideal. On the first Sunday, the first candle is lit. On the following Sunday the first candle and the second candle are lit, and so forth with the final candle, the Christ Candle being lit on Christmas Eve.

Advent Candles:
Advent 1 – Purple, Prophecy Candle represents Hope
Advent 2 – Purple, Bethlehem Candle represents Christ’s Manager
Advent 3 – Pink, Shepherds Candle represents Joy
Advent 4 – Purple, Angel Candle represents Peace
Christmas Eve – Christ Candle represents Life of Christ that has come into the world

We invite you to join us at St. Abrahams at 9:30 am this Sunday to celebrate the season of Advent and Christmas.

As we look forward to the beginning of a new church year with Advent, we look back on the past year of service as a congregation and member of the Resurrection Parish. We welcomed the return of Don Helfer as Vicar while biding a fond farewell to Interim and lead pastor Amanda McCafferty who has accepted a full time call at a church in Glen Burnie. Our community outreach this year included making baskets for shut-ins, our annual community picnic, the purchase of a medical alert pendent, the monetary collection for a local family which lost everything in a house fire. We hosted the first Joint Parish Worship Service outside on a beautiful Sunday morning with a pot luck lunch following, continued with our monthly Fellowship Lunches after the morning service, collected food for NESAP, hosted Soup Suppers during Lent and ended with collecting 26 Christmas boxes for the crew of the Iwo Jima. It's been a busy and productive year and we are thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the Lord and share his love with others. We hope that you will join us on a Sunday morning at 9:30 am.

Weather was nice so we had morning worship outside. Very nice gathered together with a gentle morning breeze blowing through the woods with the birds singing and leaves gently falling.

St. Abrahams Holiday Collection for the
USS IWO JIMA CHRISTMAS PACKAGES

St. Abrahams is currently collecting items to send Christmas Care Packages to the servicemen and women that serve on the Deck Crew of the USS IWO JIMA which will be distributed to those who do not receive anything at mail call.

We are asking our congregation (and our sister churches in the Parish) to collect specific items to be collected/forwarded to St. Abrahams for the boxes to be prepared for mailing the 1st week of November to ensure that they will receive these at packages at Christmas while they are on ship, deployed, and far from home base. St. Abrahams will be paying for the postage for the boxes.

Getting ready for tomorrow, hope to see you there.
