School Is In Full Swing!

As you can tell by the early morning and late afternoon traffic and the sighting of those long yellow machines on the road (usually called a school bus!), school is back in full swing. To which many scratch their heads and ask, “Where did the summer go?”

Pray for students as they begin their new school year routines. It’s time to start filling their heads full of knowledge. According to Buckminster Fuller, a futurist and inventor:

“….estimated that up until 1900, human knowledge doubled approximately every century, but by 1945 it was doubling every 25 years. And by 1982, it was doubling every 12-13 months.”

With that in mind, parents (and older generations), have you ever commented, “They need to get back to teaching the basics in school.” You cannot turn the hands of the clock backward (Sorry for those of you who don’t know what an analog clock is). What might be considered the basics for us is not the same for today’s students. Knowledge is knowledge. There is a lot of it. What we do with the knowledge we acquire takes wisdom. But that is another area for another time.

If it was simply about acquiring knowledge that would be one thing. But it is not. Now comes discipline problems and social issues that students are faced with. For Christian students who want to live out their faith, this can be a challenge. You might be thinking, well, that has always been the case. Hold on a minute. What was the percentage of students from your K-12 came from broken homes? Did you go to school during the era of school shootings? Did you go to school in the era where gender identity was a topic of discussion? How many arguments did you have in school over transgenderism? What about hormone replacement therapy? Or even the discussion of whether a minor child should be required to let their parents know that they want to transition. How about the erasing of gender identity? Boys in girl’s locker rooms. Or, boys being able to join a girls’ athletic team?

What can we do to help our children, especially Christian students who want to follow their faith? Those students who believe we were created by God. Those students who believe God created two genders. The students who believe God has set boundaries and guidelines for our protection and best interest.

One thing you can do is to sure things up in your home. Be the parents God has called you to be. Love God, love each other, and let your children see that you value them as a gift that God has entrusted you with for a brief period to prepare them for adulthood. As James Dobson said many years ago, turn your hearts towards home.

Next, let your faith in God be real to them. Demonstrate to them what it is to love God and to put him first in your life. Make sure as a family that you are part of a church that teaches and fosters biblical truths. It is not about the size of the church you attend it is about what is taught. Don’t make the mistake that so many parents do, even in their church lives, if we can keep them busy then we can keep them out of trouble. No! Teach them what it is to have a relationship with God so that when struggles arise (and they will) He will be with them to guide them through.

Teach them that they will not only be in school with students who will not agree with their values but remind them that will be the case throughout their lives. We will not give an account of the choices that other people make. We will be accountable to God for the decisions we make and the lives we live.

Finally, pray for your children. Pray for their schools. Pray for their teachers and administrators. Pray for their fellow students. Give thanks to God for those He has placed there to shed the light of Christ.

One more note. Those of you who can drive your children to school, teach them that you can pray anywhere. When my children were in school, I had the privilege of being able to drive them. While driving them I would pray for them, and they would pray for me. What a great opportunity!

Blessings!

CHANGES TO BLAKE'S CHAPEL FACEBOOK PAGE!

We have had to change the name of our church's page. It may seem confusing at first. Until now you could find our page under the title of, Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church. For a while you will still be able to go to the old page, however, you will not find any new information. The new name is, Blake’s Chapel. That’s it.
Nothing has changed about the church, To make the necessary changes we had no other choice. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
There is one more step you will need to take after you go to the new page, you will need to click the “Like” button. Be sure to pass this information to others in the church, to your family members, and to the entire Facebook world! Okay, so I got a little carried away. You get the point!

Thank you! We hope to see you hanging out with us in cyberspace!

What is the difference between Christianity and Cultural Christianity? In Cultural Christianity, people may embrace the teachings of Jesus and see how following his moral teachings can better society. Things like loving your neighbor as yourself. The “Golden Rule”, is to do unto others what you would have them do unto you. What is missing in Cultural Christianity is the person himself of Christianity, Jesus as the Messiah, the Christ.
In Cultural Christianity, Jesus is a great moral teacher. No more and perhaps, no less. In Christianity, we are called to live in a particular way because of who Jesus is. He is God incarnate; the Word made flesh; this is what we celebrate at Christmas. He is the Christ. Not a Christ (which means, anointed one). And, Christ is not his last name, it is his title. He is the one who was sacrificed for our sins. We call this his substitutionary atonement. Jesus took on himself, as one who was innocent, the entire debt of our sins. He is the risen Lord; this is what we celebrate on Easter. He concord our worst enemy, death. Jesus was the one who returned to the Father; we call this, his ascension. At that time the Bible tells us that he sat down at the right hand of the Father. This means that his sacrifice for our sins was accepted and his work on our behalf was completed. Now, now we wait for his return as he promised he would do.
In Christianity we are called to acknowledge Jesus as the Christ and confess our sin(s), to turn from them and go in another direction; we call this, repentance. We are to receive Jesus as the one who died in our place for our sins and believe in his resurrection; we call this, faith. Then, we are to follow him; we call this discipleship.
The problem with Cultural Christianity is that you can be morally pure, and ethically sound and still be lost. So here is the question if you carry the title of Christian; are you a Cultural Christian or a Christian? One means you have salvation (Christian), and the other (Cultural Christian), means you are still lost in your sin(s).

There are sermons that greatly impact our lives for Christ. First is the message that brings us to the saving knowledge of Christ. Then some sermons impact us in a way that wakes us up to the reality that the world itself is not in step with God, one such sermon was preached by Dr. Francis Shaeffer at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Coral Ridge, Florida, in 1982. I remember listening to it on television. I did not know that he was speaking that night. I really didn’t even know who he was. That sermon has formed much of my thinking as an adult. An event happened this week that took me back to that sermon. I was curious to see if I could find it on YouTube. Lo and behold I did. I will provide the link to that sermon by Dr. Francis Shaeffer at the end of this statement.

What was the event that took me back to that sermon? Abortions being performed by Planned Parenthood outside the DNC Convention in Chicago. Think about it, while speeches were being made protecting children on the inside, babies were being murdered on the outside. The response was given, “A Planned Parenthood branch is providing free medication abortion, vasectomies and emergency contraception through a mobile health clinic in Chicago that’s running at the same time as the DNC. But the convention is not sponsoring or otherwise connected to these services.” But, there was no condemnation of it either. There was no plea to stop it. After all, how could they? It triggered in my mind some of the things Dr. Shaeffer was talking about in 1982.
The message is lengthy, but some of you will be amazed at how far we have slid in the direction he warned about. The last book that Dr. Shaeffer wrote was, The Great Evangelical Disaster, in 1984, in which he discusses what happens when we move away from the word of God.

Needed now more than ever, this explosive message by Francis Schaeffer shows why morality and freedom have crumbled in our society. He calls for a massive mo...

A young man asked, “What is the greatest threat to the church in our generation?” The answer given is sobering. While some chuckled at his immediate response, you could tell by the expression on his face and his continuing answer, that it was nothing to laugh about. Those in the room quickly realized he was not trying to be funny.
