Yesterday, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the priestly ordination of our pastor, Fr. Charles Johnson, O.P. For two decades, Fr. Charlie has faithfully answered Christ’s call to serve His Church and shepherd His people.

Fr. Charlie was kind enough to provide these pictures from the of day of his Ordination, August 26, 2006, at St. Dominic Church, Miami, FL (and you may recognize a few familiar faces.)
Looking back at the day his priestly journey began, these photos offers a glimpse into the beginning of vocations that have continued to bear fruit through the years.

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary occurs on August 15th, a Saturday. As it is a Saturday for the Dioceses of the United States, which includes our diocese and Holy Ghost Church, the obligation to attend Mass is abrogated or lifted for this year.

However, even though it is not obligatory this year, a special Mass for the Assumption will be offered here at Holy Ghost at 8:00 am on August 15th. Please join us if you are able.

Join us Saturday morning, August 8th at 8:00am to celebrate a special Mass for the the Feast of St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers.

As a parish served by the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres, this feast holds a special place in our community.

Our Holy Ghost priests, deacon, Principal, and Assistant Principal joined Catholic educators from across the Diocese of Baton Rouge for the 2026 Catholic Educators Gathering Mass yesterday at Most Blessed Sacrament Church.
We are grateful for this opportunity to pray together and renew our commitment to the mission of Catholic education as we begin to welcome our students back this week.
