is a nonprofit organization that acts as an umbrella to many different networking programs, which include our Community Meal, Food Panty, Adopt A School Program, Homeless Prevention, Emergency Shelter as well as Affordable Housing. Calaway – Founder/Chairman of the Board
J. founded InnerMission in 1996 as a community organization to help meet the needs of a city. He has pastored The Gate for over

22 years and has his Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership. Scott Wells – Executive Director
Scott serves as the executive director of InnerMission. Scott has 20 plus years of non- profit experience. He is committed to helping people in need become self-sufficient. Nick Smith - Board Member
Nick has held various roles centered around real estate development, renovation, management and sales for the past 15 years. All of which give him the ability to play a key role in developing and providing affordable housing for those that living in unstable housing situations. Wade Kapteyn - Board Member
Wade has been the Director of Plumbing and Electric with Four Seasons for the past 2 years. and General Manager for the past 7. With his ability to build relationships, teach and mentor he is a great asset in helping bring people from surviving to thriving! Judi Hyvarinen - Board Member
Judi has been the Business Administrator for InnerMission/ The Gate for the past 24 years. With her talent and ability in finance and education she brings stability to our organization and the people we serve.

Thank you Mayor Tom and your incredible city team for how you handled this last city weather crisis! I think we as a city really came together and saw you, your team as well as neighbors helping neighbors! Shout out as well to the Hammond School City, local non-profits and churches. It was a Team Effort. Also thank you for getting the financial helps to our area so that people so we can fully recover!

As we look back over 30 years of InnerMission, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for every person who has been part of this journey.

What started with a desire to love our community well has grown into a mission of helping people move from relief to development to sustainability.

❤️ RELIEF — When someone is hungry, in crisis, or facing an emergency, we meet the immediate need through our pantry, community meals, shelter and outreach.

🌱 DEVELOPMENT — But relief is only the beginning. Through relationships, mentoring and Thrive, we walk alongside people as they discover their strengths, develop life skills, set goals and overcome barriers.

🌳 SUSTAINABILITY— Our goal is lasting change: seeing people become stable, confident and equipped to build a healthy future for themselves and their families.

Relief meets the need.
Development builds capacity.
Sustainability creates lasting change.

That has been the heart of InnerMission for 30 years.

I’m so thankful for every volunteer, donor, church, organization and friend who has helped make this work possible.

30 years of serving.
