Lesson 22 Gratitude Recap:

Celebrate Recovery lesson 22 will work on Principle 7, which says we should set apart time for Bible reading, self-examination, and prayer every day of our recovery. As we continue on the 12 steps of recovery, this lesson will help us focus on Step 11 – our relationship with God.

Remember that gratitude is a critical part of your recovery.
4 areas of gratitude:
- Be thankful to God.
- Be grateful for others.
- Be thankful for your recovery.
- Be grateful for your church.

There are many ways to be grateful in recovery. As you walk through this step, be sure to show gratitude to God for all areas of your life. That includes the emotional, relational, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of your life.

Remember gratitude is the magnet for miracles!!

Some questions to think about this week..
- In what 3 areas has God accomplished something positive in your recovery walk?
- Who has God put in your life during recovery – people you are thankful for?
- How does gratitude make you feel?
List those who have positively impacted your recovery. Consider thanking each individual personally.

Whether you’re recovering from anger or addiction, at some point most of us experience relapse. However with the tools we learn in CR we are able to continue our paths towards recovery.

Falling is never easy or fun, and unfortunately it does happen, however the key to falling is getting back up.

CR lesson on Relapse gives us some great tools to help prevent relapse.

Study the acrostic for RELAPSE and try to put these items into practice in your daily life. These are the tools needed in order to recover and live a life of freedom.

Reflect on these questions:

-What tools will you use to prevent a relapse?
-Are you hurting right now? How?
-In what ways are you exhausted?
-How are you feeling anger and resentment?
-What are you still harboring in terms of these items?
-What is making you tense right now?
-How do you behave when you feel the stressors above?
-How do your listening skills rate on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 is the best)?
-In what ways could you improve your listening skills with God?
-How could you improve your listening skills with others?
-What does a “quiet time” with God mean to you?
-How could you improve your prayer life? Get into the details here.
-When and where do you currently pray? (Consider a prayer closet).
-Do you currently give God the opportunity to speak to you as you listen?
-How do you celebrate your recovery? List what you do, even with the small victories.

“Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances.”– 1 Thessalonians 5:16 (GNT)

So thankful to hear a great testimony from Jennifer Dimm last night!

A small recap:
Jennifer told us about her childhood. She talked about how she had a lot of death in her family at a young age, and because she was only taught religion instead of relationship, it made her turn away from God. Not being able to process death would affect Jennifer throughout her life until God revealed it to her in her recovery.

Jennifer has dealt with addition, pride, fear. Through her ups and downs in recovery she realized that every time she tries to take control of her life bad things happen. For Jennifer surrender and helping other has been the key to her recovery.

Jennifer said, and I think we can all agree, the greatest 6 letters that describe it all is… BUT GOD!

Jennifer reminded us that we need to look for God everywhere we go and in everything that we do because He is still a miracle working God!

Thank you Jennifer for sharing your story with us tonight!

At CR we believe small groups are vital to the recovery process. Each week we hold separate men’s and women’s small groups. In these groups we are able to share our lives, our struggles, and our experiences of God’s power and healing. We are able to support and encourage one another through prayer and our testimonies.

Our CR small groups have become more than just people meet with every week, we have become family!

If you haven’t been to CR yet we encourage you to join us and see what we are all about!

(Small groups are confidential and we believe what is said in group stays in group.)

All are welcome!
Meetings are held every Tuesday starting at 6:30pm.

Being grateful when we are in the middle of a storm can be difficult, however being grateful is something we should do in ALL circumstances. Being grateful for small things that we can often take for granted can start the process of renewing our minds. In turn we start to see more of the good God is doing instead of being focused on our negative situation.
We offer you a challenge for this week. Begin to recognize and be grateful for all types things, Jesus, a roof over your head, oxygen, waking up, anything and everything. Write them down so you can see them. Take inventory at the end of each day and the end of the week to see if you have a more positive mindset.
Remember it works if you work it!
Feel free to share with us what you are grateful for today!

Huge thank you to Debra Hughes for sharing her testimony with us last night!

Debra’s “freedom date” was December 2002, which is when she began her journey of healing through Jesus.

Debra was a high school drop out who developed alcohol and drug addiction, BUT GOD! She is now a college graduate, who graduated top of her class, she has been a substance abuse counselor, founded and currently runs a recovery center for women in Livingston Parish.

Debra shared with us that God gave her a vision of the recovery center when she was 6 month sober and it has taken healing and learning but God worked out all of the details and made the vision He gave her, almost 20 years ago, come to pass. He has also supplied all of the needs for herself, her family, and the ministry along the way.

She shared multiple revelations God gave her, and also shared how God has been her advocate and attorney for both herself and family members many times. How he has not only saved her but kept her since she gave her life to Him.

Debra gave us a great tool to use. It comes from Philippians 4:8. She told us that she struggled a lot with her thoughts and fears, but she was able to take her thoughts captive and renew her mind by questioning what she was thinking. Are these thoughts true, what are the actual facts? Are they pure? Noble? Right? Lovely? She was able to remind herself that God is always with her, she is never alone, and because of that she didn’t have to fear. What a great tool for each of us to put into practice!

Thank you again Debra for sharing your story of healing and recovery with us last night!
