Steward Saint: Matthew
Feast Day: September 21st
St. Bede says of Matthew, “There is no reason for surprise that the tax collector abandoned earthly wealth as soon as the Lord commanded him. Nor should one be amazed that neglecting his wealth, he joined a band of men whose leader had, on Matthew’s assessment, no riches at all. Christ, who was summoning him away from earthly possessions, had incorruptible treasures of heaven in his gift.” This one-time tax collector is celebrated today as apostle and evangelist, the author of the Gospel of Matthew and missionary to Persia and Ethiopia.
St. Matthew, pray for us!

Steward Saint: Rose of Lima (1586-1617)
Feast Day: August 23rd
St. Rose was born in Lima, Peru, and is celebrated as the first saint of the Americas and the patroness of South America. She refused to marry, and when her father forbade her to enter the religious life, she retreated to a tiny hermitage in her family’s garden. There, as a Third Order Dominican, she devoted herself to penances so severe they seem almost incomprehensible to us today. But she clearly loved God with an unquenchable ardor and understood that suffering is a means to grace.
St. Rose, pray for us!

WHERE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT LEADING US? - As part of Synod 2027, Archbishop Casey invites each of us to participate in a Conversations in the Spirit listening session. Participants will join others across our archdiocese in prayerfully considering what the Holy Spirit is asking of our Church at this time, thereby assisting Archbishop Casey as he establishes pastoral priorities for the future. There are approximately 60 sessions scheduled between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Register today at https://catholicaoc.org/conversations.
