From the feast:
Joachim and Anna today hold festival, having given birth to the only Theotokos, the beginning of our salvation; and with them we also celebrate, blessing the pure Virgin who sprang forth from the root of Jesse.

Fittingly, on the Church New Year, we blessed the building and grounds of a new church building for our parish. And interestingly, as a little nod from the saints who are praying for us, on September 1, we also commemorate St. Symeon the Stylite, who, I did not realize till preparing for this service, is also Syrian, like our own patron, St. Ephraim. Through the prayers of our heavenly intercessors, Saints Ephraim and Symeon, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us.

Blessed feast of Transfiguration! The first hymn sung at Vespers:

Before thy crucifixion, O Lord, the mountain emulated the heavens and the cloud did envelop thee like the Tabernacle of old when thou wast transfigured and borne witness to by the Father. There were Peter, James, and John, for they were to be with thee also at the time of thy betrayal, that, beholding thy wonders, they not fear thy sufferings, which do thou vouchsafe unto us that we may venerate them in peace, for the sake of thy great mercy.
