No one knows what twists and turns lie ahead on the road of life; some are good, others devastating. But the Emmaus road is walked with a kindred spirit. There is someone to help us out of the ditch and point us in the right direction. We have a friend who celebrates the mountain top experiences, and empathizes with us in the valleys. If you find yourself in a season of darkness, remember, joy comes in the morning, at the rising of the sun through the mountain pass.

Yet as we continue traveling, and grow into the realization that He who is the object of our destination is also our Companion on the road, the landscape of this inner journey begins to change. We discover the joy found in expectancy and patient waiting.

—————
God be with thee in every pass,
Jesus be with thee on every hill,
Spirit be with thee on every stream,
Headland and ridge and lawn;
Each sea and land, each moor and meadow,
Each lying down, each rising up,
In the trough of the waves, on the crest of the billows,
Each step of the journey thou goest.
