Halifax Union Society Non-denominational church in Halifax, VT. Summer 2025 dates:
July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24, all at 5PM All services begin at 5PM.

The Halifax Union Society is an independent, non-denominational church in Halifax, VT. The Society’s inclusive, neighborly atmosphere and its peaceful hilltop setting have appealed to a diverse group of local residents, summer residents, and visitors since 1891. This year, bi-weekly Sunday evening services will begin on June 23 and will continue through September 1. Special guest pastor Jon Heyden

Our 2025 season has come to a close. We look forward to gathering again next summer.

Many thanks to Pastor Jon who came to lead us last Sunday while recovering from a serious bicycle accident.

Jon Heydenreich will return to lead our fourth and final service of 2025 on Sunday, August 24 at 5PM. Jon will relate biblical teachings to concepts of mindfulness and how these can improve our experiences of life and our value to others. A social hour will follow. We hope you can join us.

We welcome Rev. Jon Heydenreich to lead our services on two Sundays, August 10 and 24, at 5PM. Rev. Jon is the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brattleboro and writes the Mindful Minute column in the Brattleboro Reformer. In services he led for us last year, he focused on how we can improve our spiritual lives and personal relationships through more mindful engagement.

Both services start at 5PM and are followed by a social hour. We are located at 44 Stowe Mountain Road in Halifax Center, 2 miles south of the town office and school. You can find us on Google Maps. We are open and welcoming to all.

The Halifax Union Society welcomes Rev. Richard Morton as the leader of our service on Sunday evening, July 27, at 5PM. A social hour will follow.

Rev. Morton is the second of a three ministers who are leading bi-weekly services this summer. He serves as Chaplain at Vernon Homes, a senior living community in Vernon, VT. He advises and comforts residents at all stages of care, their families, and the employees who support them. He began his ministry while working as a compliance officer for Brattleboro Savings and Loan, a position from which he retired in 2018. He is active in local politics, most recently running to be the state senator for Windham County.

The Union Society is interdenominational and welcomes people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to our quiet hilltop location. We are located at 44 Stowe Mountain Road, 2 miles south of the Halifax school and town office.

The Halifax Union Society will begin its 134th year of interdenominational worship in a service led by Rev. Bert Marshall on Sunday, July 13 at 5PM. Marshall is the first of three guest ministers who will bring diverse religious perspectives to four services in July and August.

Rev. Marshall serves as Pastor of the Congregational Church in Plainfield MA. He also serves as New England Regional Director for Church World Service, which provides self-help, disaster relief, and refugee assistance throughout the world. Rev. Marshall earned his MDiv at Yale Divinity School in 1997 after earlier work as a musician, farmworker, innkeeper, and tractor-trailer driver. He has led services at the Union Society in prior years, most recently when he was serving as interim pastor at the Central Congregational Church in Brattleboro.

Directions to Halifax Union Society

From West Halifax: From the school and town office, go up the hill on Jacksonville Stage Road. Go about 2 miles to Halifax Center. We are located just steps to the right of the crossroads where Stowe Mountain Road and Old County Road meet Jacksonville Stage Road.

From Wilmington or West Dover: Take Route 100 South to Jacksonville: Take Route 112 South for 5 miles. Turn left on Branch Road to West Halifax. Near the school, turn right, up the hill, on Jacksonville Stage Road. Go about 2 miles to a crossroads. Turn right at the mailboxes onto Stowe Mountain Road. The church is just ahead on your right.

From Jacksonville: Take Route 112 South for 5 miles. Turn left on Branch Road to West Halifax. Near the school, turn right, up the hill, on Jacksonville Stage Road. Go about 2 miles to the crossroads at Halifax Center. Turn right at the mailboxes onto Stowe Mountain Road. The church is just ahead on your right.

From Marlboro: From South Street, go South on Moss Hollow Road well past the college to Green River Road. Turn right, then bear left on Brook Road after 1 mile, continuing on blacktop. In village of West Halifax, turn left on Branch Road. Just past the school, bear left uphill on Jacksonville Stage Road. After 2 miles, turn right on Stowe Mountain Road just before the mailboxes. The church is just ahead on your right.

From Colrain or Shelburne: Take Route 112 North. One mile north of VT state line, turn right on Stowe Mountain Road. Go a few miles uphill until you reach the church on your left, just steps from the crossroads where Stowe Mountain Road reaches Jacksonville Stage Road.
