HURRICANE ISAIAS – WEATHER UPDATE | CITY OF HALEYVILLE EMA
The City of Haleyville Emergency Management Agency is closely monitoring Hurricane Isaias and its potential impacts on our area.
At this time, the National Weather Service is forecasting heavy rainfall and gusty winds across portions of Central and North Alabama as the system moves inland. These conditions could result in downed trees, power outages, localized flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
Expected Impacts for the Haleyville & Winston County Area:
🌧️ Heavy Rainfall – Periods of heavy rain are possible, which could result in localized flooding.
⚠️ Flash Flood Watch – Winston County is being placed under a Flash Flood Watch due to the potential for heavy rainfall. Small streams, ditches, low-lying areas and areas prone to flooding should be monitored closely.
💨 Gusty Winds – Stronger wind gusts could bring down trees and limbs and cause scattered power outages. Residents should be prepared for the possibility of losing power.
🌪️ Tornado Threat – The threat for an isolated tornado in our immediate area is currently low, but not zero. At this time, the greater isolated tornado threat is expected to remain well to our south and east.
⏰ Timing – We expect to have a better idea later tonight and into tomorrow morning regarding the specific timing of when Haleyville and Winston County can expect to begin seeing the effects of Hurricane Isaias.
Haleyville Is Preparing
The City of Haleyville has been preparing in the days leading up to this system, with our local Fire Department, Police Department and Street Department working together and preparing to quickly respond to any issues that may arise from the impacts of this storm.
We encourage everyone to prepare now rather than later. Secure loose outdoor items, make sure you have flashlights and batteries available, charge your phones and other necessary devices, and be prepared for the possibility of power outages and periods of heavy rain.
