Today’s Impact DMV Church devotional, “The Great Theft”.
Have you ever had something stolen from you? The violation feels personal, doesn't it? There's something uniquely painful about someone taking what rightfully belongs to you. Today, we need to confront an uncomfortable truth: we are all capable of spiritual theft. When we take credit for our accomplishments, talents, or successes, we're essentially stealing glory that belongs to God alone. That promotion at work? God opened the door. Your children's achievements? He blessed your family. The ministry that's growing? He's the one drawing hearts to Himself. This isn't about false humility or diminishing the effort we put into things. It's about recognizing the source. Every breath we take, every opportunity we receive, every good thing in our lives flows from His generous hand. When we forget this truth, we become spiritual thieves, taking credit for what He has done. The beautiful thing is that God doesn't want to diminish us by receiving all the glory – He wants to elevate us by including us in His work. When we give Him the credit He deserves, we find our proper place in His story. We discover that being part of God's plan is far more fulfilling than trying to be the hero of our own story. Today, let's commit to being glory-givers rather than glory-takers. Let's return what belongs to Him and find the joy that comes from living in proper relationship with our Creator.
Lord, forgive us for taking credit for what only You have done. Teach us to live with grateful hearts and to give You all the glory. Use our lives for Your purposes, and keep us humble before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
