Scripture: Joshua 14: 1-15

Thought: Are there unaccomplished things in your life? Are there things you would like to achieve still in life? Imagine being a young man with the promise of a bright, successful future and being selected for an important mission for the military that would endanger your life but offer the promise of success for future generations. That is the importance of the life of Caleb. Now imagine the mission was successful and Caleb had witnessed the splendors of Canaan. Many years had gone by and Caleb was living as older, unfulfilled man. The plans for promise and conquest seemed a distant memory in Caleb’s mind. Yet, the hope of the unfulfilled promises was as alive in his heart as ever. Joshua 14 declares the work that was accomplished in Caleb’s final years of life. Caleb approaches Joshua with this unfulfilled promise. Certainly, Caleb is still able to see this promise fulfilled in his life. Forty-five years he had waited to see the promise come to pass and that moment had finally arrived. Never underestimate the power of God to fulfill his promises in your life. Sometimes promises are delayed, but with God they are never denied. Hold fast and keep trust the hand of God. God will bring his promises to pass in your life!

Prayer: Father, there are promises that remain unfulfilled in my life. Yet, I am anxious to believe for the impossible to occur in my life. As you gave Caleb a promise that took forty-five years to be fulfilled, I believe that you will accomplish your promises in my life also. Give me the strength to believe for you to do the impossible in my life. Grant me the hope to look into the future knowing that your Word is established forever. I live with the anticipation that you will accomplish what you have declared for my life. Amen.

Scripture: Jude 1
Thought: One of the shortest books in Scripture but contains a great wealth of insight and instruct for our lives today is the book of Jude. Within the Word of God, we have the promises that if we will content for the faith God will see us through. As believers, we have the responsibility to keep ourselves in the love of God. Jude admonishes us to, “build yourself up in the most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keeping yourself in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” As a result of these actions many have “made a difference” not only in their lives but in the lives of others also. Jude declares, “saving other from fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the clothing of the fleshly desires.” These works of God are able to sustain believers even in the most trying of times. Jude concludes, “unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding great joy. To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion, and power, both now and ever. Amen.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for the great opportunity to be reminded that you are looking out for my best interests. I love you for you are and what you have already done in my life. Give me the wisdom and direction to continue to stay the course that you have given to me through your Word. Your Word is truth. Help me to sustain in times of adversity and to keep from falling. Amen.

Scripture: Psalm 121

Thought: Do you ever stay awake at night worrying and wondering about things? Have you ever though about the fact that God never slumbers or sleeps? Instead of counting sheep when you can’t sleep, you can count your blessings. You can rest in the promise that the shepherd of the sheep has everything under control. Today you can lift up your eyes and know that God will see you through no matter what is going on in your life. God is watching out for you, in the middle of the day and in the middle of the night. God is constantly keeping watching over you. When you feel as if no one cares or no one knows, there is a God in heaven who is aware of everything. God will take care of you. Lift up your eyes and know that your help comes from the Lord!

Prayer: God, thank you for giving me the strength and knowledge to know that you have all things in your control. Help me to count my blessings and avoid the distractions that would take away from the blessings you have bestowed upon me. Lift up my eyes to the hills and see the help of the Lord coming to me even now. I rest in the promises of your Word and take assurance in knowing that you are working all things for my good. Amen.

Scripture: Ephesians 5:1-21

Thought: What genre of music do you like? The types and kinds of music today is as varied as the artists themselves. In recent times, even “crossover” over of genres occurs that give a greater audience for the artist to reach. The Apostle Paul admonishes the church in Ephesus to encourage themselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Just think for a moment of the various types of music that have been sung in the church through various centuries. Today, many modern songs are just an updated version of ancient hymns from hundreds of years ago. Many of the psalms of David are placed to music and become part of our worship today. No matter the style, the genre, or flavor, open up your mouth and be encouraged today by the words which give glory, honor, and praise to God. He alone is worthy to receive glory, honor, and praise.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love you, O Lord, I lift up my voice to honor and praise you with everything within me. Grant me the ability to look beyond the style of songs to the true meaning of the words of worship that give reverence to your great name. I love you and thank you for giving me a song to sing in worship to you in all seasons of my life. I worship you for who you are! Amen.

Scripture: Proverbs 1

Thought: Would you like to have wisdom? The wisest man who ever lived wrote a book that details short proverbs of insight, wisdom, and instruction. Wisdom comes to those who seek it, who ask God for it amid the trials in their lives. As believers, we live in a world that needs wisdom. In reading Proverbs 1, we can learn the wisdom that comes from acknowledging God’s actions in the world around us. The greatest wisdom that can be found is in the Scriptures. Solomon declares, “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Through the book of Proverbs, we are presented with short snippets of information that aid in the successful living out of life through the purpose and plan of God’s will for our lives. Proverbs challenges us to look deep into our own lives to discover the true meaning for life and the importance of living a life pleasing and acceptable to God.

Prayer: Gracious God, give me the wisdom to walk in a way that is acceptable to you. Your Scriptures declare that you will give wisdom to those who ask. So humbly, I approach your throne and ask that you will give me insight and direction from your Word. May the Word of God be accomplished in my life in a greater way that I can ever imagine. I arise to the challenge to read and study your Word that I might walk in your paths. Amen.

Scripture: Psalm 1

Thought: What does it mean to be blessed? Have you ever thought about the reality of how blessed you really are? We live in a world that so often focuses on what it negative rather than thinking of positive things. Psalm 1 declares that we are blessed if we focus on the things of God, specifically the Word of God. In a world filled with troubles and trials, we should realize just how blessed we are. The blessings of God come upon our life in a variety of ways. Even in the very intricate details of the living out of our lives, we should be aware of the blessings that God has provided for us. We are blessed when we delight in the Word of God and when we meditate in upon the Scriptures. Psalm 1 declares that we will be like a tree that weathers the storms of life no matter what is going on around us. We are blessed. Look at the Scriptures today and realize that God has blessed you. You are blessed, even in difficult moments in life.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your blessings on my life. I am so honored that you have chosen me to experience the many wonderful things that you have done for me. I lift up my voice in praise to you for all your blessings on my life. Let me walk in obedience to your Word and avoid the paths of evil all the days of my life. Grant me the ability to plant my feet in the soil of your Word and stand firm amid adversity. I love you Lord and I will mediate upon your Word throughout this day and in the days to come. Amen.

Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:1-16:23

Thought: The life of David is replete with examples of moments in which God was merciful to this shepherd boy. Saul, on the other hand was a powerful king who had been chosen from among the people at the whim of the congregation of Israel. God wanted to lead them, yet Israel wanted a king like the other nations around them. Saul was the people’s choice of king, but it wasn’t God’s choice. We live in a world today that is much like ancient Israel. We must be aware of the consequences of our own actions. Individuals can rise and fall with the turning of the seasons. King Saul’s life is the perfect example. Saul had the desire to do things in his own strength and power and wanted to avoid the power of God to lead, guide, and direct his life. Saul lost everything simply because he was unwilling to follow after the things of God. In a world that is filled with trouble, we need to aware of the danger that personal success and pride can bring our way. King Saul was full of himself, rather than filled with the things of God. We must allow this example of the rise and fall of Saul to illuminate our lives in such a way that we do not fall prey to the challenges that arise in our lives.

Prayer: Almighty God, help me to overcome the challenges in my life that seem to distract me from the divine will that you have established in my life. Grant me the ability to walk in a way that is pleasing and acceptable to you. Lead, guide, and direct my life according to your will and way. Help me to avoid selfish desires, pride, and arrogance. Let me walk humbly before you all the days of my life. Amen.
