I’m reading the Bible in a year. If you choose to do this, and I really think everyone should, get a Bible Study or use an app that will have you read it in chronological order. It really helps everything make sense, like when you get into the Prophets of the old testament.
Anyway, we just started Deuteronomy where Moses is about to lead the Jews into the Promised Land. He is giving them all a synopsis of the last 38 years when something hit me. God was giving them the promised land, but they were going to have to fight for it. All throughout Genesis to this point, God was leading them, but they had to fight and battle (because there is evil to fight).
Start with Genesis, my favorite story of Joseph. His brothers sold him into slavery to get rid of his annoying self. Joseph held a high position as a slave, only to be lied about, thrown in prison and forgotten. But he never gave up faith because he knew God had a plan. Then there’s the Exodus. God told them the were his chosen people. They had to fight in many battles along the way to get to the land of milk and honey, but God was always there. Then there is David. He was chosen to be the second King of Israel, but before that King number 1, Saul literally chased him around the desert to kill him. (Here’s a side note, David was given a wonderful opportunity to kill Saul when he was alone in a cave and he didn’t. Great story about relieving yourself in a cave.)
So my point is never give up hope, because no matter how long it takes, whatever his happening God is with you. Just listen and pray. They say the people who are closest to you speak in a whisper. So, be quiet and listen to the whispers. And pray.
