“Take A Moment” I bless you for the day you have made, Mighty Lord God, and pray that I may spend this day rejoicing in your creation. I pray for your Holy Spirit to fill me with the joy of my salvation through Jesus Christ, so that your light may shine through me into the world, that your honor and glory may be known to all people. Remind me of your blessings, I pray, with every tribulation I may face, so that I may act with energy, forgiveness and love, ever mindful of the grace You have shown to me. Through Christ I pray.

On June 7, we welcome Pastor Eddie Edmonds to our congregation (behind the pulpit). He has been a part of the HCOB family for some time now. Please join us in extending a heartfelt welcome to Pastor Eddie and his family. We invite everyone to attend worship in the coming weeks and take the opportunity to personally greet Pastor Eddie, if you haven’t done so already.

“Take A Moment” for week of June 7.
God told Abraham to head out for parts unknown. With little more than a promise, Abraham leaves everything behind. When God calls us, we must be pre- pared to be swept off to God knows where. Like Abraham, we may not have a map or a good set of directions, but faith means trusting God and moving forward through uncertainty. We are on a journey that can at the same time be scary and exciting. Let us join hearts and minds and spirits as we join with God as the road unfolds before us.

"Take a Moment" prayer for week of May 31 - Loving God, Thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus; who is not only our Savior, but also our example for daily living. I pray that as I follow in Jesus’ footsteps along with my church family at Hagerstown COB, that His love will swell within us; and overflow, making us comforters and encouragers for one another through this time of transition. And together then, may we grow into a bright beacon of light pointing others to you. Amen.

"Take a Moment" prayer for week of May 24 - Holy Spirit, come today and fill me with the spiritual energy of fire and wind, so that I will live this day fully in God’s will. I want to please him and show him I love him by being obedient to His commands. I want to travel the road of life that God has laid out for me. I want my relationship with Him to involve more than mere words. I want to be so close to God that when others hear and see me…they will see Him in me. Holy Spirit, come. I ask all of this not for my own selfish gain; but so, I can help make a difference in my corner of the world for God today. Amen.

"Take a Moment Prayer" for week of May 17 - Beautiful God, As I look around me, I am reminded of your glory, and I offer praises to you. I thank you for your presence that surrounds and guides me during every single moment of the day. I thank you for your Spirit that guides me and motivates me to do your will. Should my eyes and thoughts be clouded by misguided social values and prejudices, redirect me to the witness and teachings of Jesus so that I might take on a Christ-like perspective on social issues and towards people different from me. As your love lives in and through me, may my words and service to others bless them with the undeniable awareness of God’s presence and love pouring over them. Amen.

Months ago, Paster Twyla gave me (Mary Coffman Early) permission to post info about a blog that I'm working on with information about my life growing up in the Church of the Brethren with the Hagerstown Church just a block and half from my home. I will also mention that I'm writing a novel in which the main character Grandmother Coffman's stepbrother, who was originally a member of the Manor Church but at one time lived across the street from HCoB and participated in various roles.. This blog includes another subject, which is my growing up as the youngest of fourteen Coffman cousins.. You may subscribe to get notices when I post a new blog. I believe in short stories, so these shouldn't take long to read. Here's the link to my blog site:
