The resurrected Lord appeared to the travelers on the road to Emmaus, the disciples, and then to more than 500 believers at one time. Our Lord also reassured individuals: Mary Magdala, Thomas, and Peter. Christ comes to each of us every day to reassure us of his presence, love, and care. This Sunday we’ll reflect on the story of James and John’s request to Jesus, the one they made asking Jesus to allow them to sit on either side of him in heaven. To make such a request, James and John must have felt deserving of such an honor. But Jesus used the occasion to teach his disciples that to be a leader in the Kingdom of God one must be willing to unselfishly serve others, not lord over them. Jesus himself best modeled this leadership by dying for us on the cross. How are we doing at serving others in our family, at church, in the workplace, where we volunteer, and on the field of play? Come to worship this Sunday to explore more about Jesus’ servant leadership.
