Since our ministry transition 6 weeks ago from Ohio to Mississippi, I have really been challenged to just stop and rest. Moving is so challenging. I want to get everything unpacked and organized, like yesterday šŸ˜‚. But, last week Clint and I paused to breathe, we took a full day, to not touch a box, line a drawer or sweep the garage. This is sabbatical, this is rest. Ministry will often cause us to feel ā€œbehindā€ like there is so much to do! But resting first, will fuel us to be able to give more.

I have been preaching the gospel since I was 16 years old. And, still to this day, I am honored and humbled every time I step on a stage. One thing I have learned over the years, is that rest is just as important as preaching. I went through a season in my life where I just kept giving…

I found in scripture during that season something very important, in Matthew 14, in verses 13 & 22.. it is noted in those two verses that Jesus ā€œwent away to restā€. Read it! It’s right there! He needed to go off the grid for a little. And guess what.. you do too. During the month of January we have been focused and praying on our first steps to make plans for Hebron Ministries, Inc. We will have acreage and facilities that can provide a beautiful backdrop for a minister to take time away. At minimal cost them. Will you help us pray?

Family is so important to us.
After our 3 children married… family time has become even more important. But, it doesn’t seem like that many years ago, when our kids were 8, 5 and 4… that was the Summer we took our very first family vacation. I will never forget driving from Anniston, Alabama to Chattanooga, Tennessee, checking in a modest Hotel for two nights so we could visit Look Out Mountain and Ruby Falls with our kiddos. We had already been married a little more than 10 years!! And had not been on one non-work/ministry related trip… not one. Our pastor at the time Bishop Krameon Martin, was the first to ā€œadviseā€ me on the matter. I was his full-time Youth Pastor. I will never forget the day he called me in his office and said… ā€œBro. Clint, when will you and your family take some time off this Summer?ā€ I had no answer. But thankfully, he did. For most of us in ministry, taking time away is tough, we feel guilty, we have low funds and/or we don’t have a reliable minister to fill in for us. We believe that Sabbatical is important. Join us in prayer, as God continues to open up His plan for Hebron. We are believing for acreage and facilities that we can call a place of Sabbath for ministry couples to find peace and restoration!

In 2011, about 1/4 of a mile from this corner we are standing on, we huddled in a closet of our parsonage with our 3 teen children and our youth pastor. The next 2 minutes seemed like hours as we heard the wind, debris and rain beat on that brick parsonage like it was a shack. Moments after, we emerged out of the now destroyed house… but all of us alive and well. What followed was the real miracle. The rebuild. A town, church, gym and new parsonage. We were never without support. In fact, even though our ministry has moved us away, that town, people and church are still home. But, we learned something, we learned about balance, rest, healing and family. See, in ministry, it’s very easy to ā€œkeep servingā€. When we do that… everything else in our life gets muddy, it’s hard to see where the lines of division are that separate ministry, church, family and personal health. We learned the hard way do to speak, and ultimately paid for it physically and emotionally. It was out of this process of healing that Hebron began to birth in our hearts. What if we could create a place where ministers just like us, could ā€œclock outā€ and restore. Stay at a beautiful place in beautiful surroundings and rest. We desire to offer this gift of sabbatical, free of charge to full time ministry. The word Hebron actually means ā€œFriend of Godā€, we are believing that the ministry couples who stay at our place of Sabbatical will experience just that. The comfort of restoration.

Created in our hearts after a tornado tragedy that changed our life forever. We learned the value of rest and sabbatical. Now, we are on a quest to help other Pastors, Missionaries and Evangelists experience sabbatical... at a place we will call Hebron.
