Zion Lutheran Church - Gwinner Zion Lutheran Church is a part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Zion Lutheran Church is located in Gwinner, North Dakota. I did nothing.

The 16th Century Reformer, Martin Luther, once said,

""I simply taught, preached, and wrote God’s Word; otherwise I did nothing. And then, while I slept, or drank Wittenberg beer with my Philip [Melanchthon] and my Amsdorf [Nicholaus von], the Word so greatly weakened the papacy that never a prince or emperor did such damage to it. The Word did it all." What does Luther mean though? What he was

saying is that the Reformation was not due to any profound abilities on behalf of the reformers, but that the power of the Reformation to challenge the 16th Century Papacy was solely in the Word. What does this mean for Zion though? Here at Zion we do want to strive to be professional, friendly, and offer good programs such as Sunday School, Confirmation, and LWML. We want to have reverent and welcoming Divine Services. However, we need to keep in mind that these programs and ministries are only as good as that which is taught and proclaimed from them. In other words, our blessed church does not hang on the strength of programs and ministry functions and potlucks (as good as our food is), but rather, our programs, ministry functions, and services hang upon the Word of God. It is about the Lord's Word and Sacraments. The power of the church is not found in her programs, her architecture, or her personality, but rather, it is in the Word that goes forth. Therefore, come and receive the Lord's Word and Sacraments, for the Word of the Lord endures forever!

The congregations of Zion and Redeemer will observe the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord this Thursday with the Divine Service at 5 p.m. at Zion. The Ascension bridges the Resurrection of Our Lord and Pentecost. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. His ascension is another mark of His victory over the ancient Serpent, as Christ reigns supreme in the bodies and souls of those who trust Him!
