15th SUNDAY of PENTECOST at the GUMC

JOIN US at our 10:30a.m. service as PASTOR BILLIE KAY LADWIG leads us in worship. Her sermon centers on “Reconciliation in the community of faith.”

PASTOR BILLIE offers a special message during CHILDREN’S TIME before the youngest among us head to SUNDAY SCHOOL. Bring your children or grandchildren to church all are welcome!

To begin the service, pianist JANE MINK helps ready our hearts for worship by playing a prelude as acolytes ALICE & AUGGIE symbolically bring the Light of Christ into the sanctuary.

DAWN TWEEDLE serves as Liturgist.

SPECIAL MUSIC during the service is offered by the STRINGED CHALLENGED duo of CATHERINE STEPHENSON & CHUCK RYALL. For their anthem, the GUMC CHOIR sings “Gratitude.”

BEN WAKKURI LEADS SERVICE at the GUMC

In BEN WAKKURI’s inaugural message “Being called to God’s Plan,” Ben says, “The sermon has to do with the journey I’ve taken in life and my values. Going from lacking purpose and meaning, to finding God and Family.”

LINDA REMSBURG serves as Liturgist.

Pianist, JANE MINK opens the service with a prelude as two young acolytes symbolically bring the light of Christ into our beautiful and historic sanctuary. Jane will also lead the congregation in our Hymn of Preparation.

The STRINGED CHALLENGED duo of CATHERINE STEPHENSON and CHUCK RYALL offers special music during the offertory, as well as lead the congregation in two hymns: “Awesome God” and “I'm gonna live so God can use me.”

The GUMC CHOIR sings a new toe-tapping anthem, “I Go to the Rock.” 🎶 If so moved, it is perfectly acceptable to clap, say Amen, or cha-cha-cha at the end.

SUSAN and REV GORDON BARRY attend worship as we offer our fond farewells to our good friends prior to their move to Wisconsin. In their honor, a small luncheon was enjoyed after the service.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2026–GWINN, MICHIGAN
BEN WAKKURI LEADS SERVICE at the GUMC

JOIN US at 10:30a.m. Sunday morning as our newest speaker BEN WAKKURI leads us in worship. In his inaugural message “Being called to God’s Plan,” Ben says, “The sermon has to do with the journey I’ve taken in life and my values. Going from lacking purpose and meaning, to finding God and Family.”

Ben will also have a special message for the kiddos during CHILDREN’S TIME.

For generations, the beloved Wakkuri family has been active members of our church. Ben with his wife Suellen (our truly amazing Sunday school teacher), together with his children (Alice who has been our longest serving acolyte, and Theo who participates in noisy collection), has helped keep this tradition alive.

Love in Action

9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. POTLUCK PICNIC to follow service!

YOU are invited to worship together with members, family and friends of the GWINN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH and GWINN COMMUNITY CHURCH as we enjoy the second of two ecumenical service of the summer under the Pavilion in Gwinn’s Peter Nordeen Park on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Those leading the service include PASTORS BILLIE KAY LADWIG (Gwinn United Methodist), DAVE ROUTHEAUX, JOY ROUTHEAUX, STEVE FINLEY (Gwinn Community Church).

The STRINGED CHALLENGED duo of CATHERINE STEPHENSON and CHUCK RYALL lead us in music. In addition, GUMC Choir Director BRIAN VEALE leads the GUMC CHOIR and friend in singing “Down to the River to Pray with Lord, Listen to Your Children.”

ALL ARE WELCOME!

A potluck picnic follows the service.

Volunteers needed at 8:30 am at the GUMC for set-up and after the service for clean-up and returning the items to the church.

AUGUST 9, 2026–GWINN, MICHIGAN
11th SUNDAY of PENTECOST at the GUMC

JOIN US for our 10:30a service as DAWN TWEEDLE leads us in worship. Her sermon is entitled, “Trust the Love of Jesus.” Dawn says, “We all have fears and doubts at times. Through prayer and learning our faith and trust will grow. Trust in the love of Jesus, peace is there even when the world is scary.”

Two children serve as Acolytes and symbolically bring the Light of Christ into the sanctuary as they light the alter candles. All the kiddos participate during CHILDREN’S TIME and help with NOISY COLLECTION during the offertory.

DARCIA MATTSON serves as Liturgist.

Pianist JANE MINK accompanies the congregation during the singing of hymns, CHUCK RYALL plays guitar during the offertory and the GUMC Choir sings a special anthem “Bring it Home.”
